The Chinese government made a big fuss at the April 25 Zhong-nan-hai sit-in petition. It was not surprising that so many ordinary people did not understand and thought that Falun Gong cultivators would not be capable of acting, accordingly, with regard to forbearance. We have discovered to our dismay, that even among our fellow practitioners, many held the opinion that we did not do well with forbearance.
On April 25, 1999, tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners came to the Appeal Office near Zhongnanhai to appeal. They were peacefully waiting to tell the country' leaders Falun Gong' real story and the recent police' detaining and beating the practitioners in Tianjin.

Practitioner Zhong Kai, a student from the Oil Institute of Xin-jiang, was forced to quit the schoolings because he refused to write the pledge that he would give up his belief. He left the school on April 7. Before that, he had been detained for more than one month during the whole winter break ...

Practitioners from Chang-sha City, Ms. Zhang Xiao-mei and He Xiang-gu, got detained for 15 days after they came back from appealing in Beijing. Later, they were sent to the Mental Hospital of Hu-nan Province by their workplace (affiliated with the department of hygiene) for forced-treatment. Each of them was given a shot with long-term effect once a month ...
1. "The government has promised us that it is OK for us to beat you to death." - a police officer
2. "We don' want to beat you. But if we cannot transform you, we will be put on ' Lao' (a type of physical punishment)." - convicted criminals who were ordered to beat practitioners in hunger strike
Mr. Li Bao-qing is a senior researcher of the Institute of Geography of the Chinese Academy. A recipient of the government special allowance, he won the outstanding employee award of China Academy for "7th Five" major science and technology projects. He was also listed in "Who' Who" edited by the Center of International Who' Who, Cambridge, England, v. 25, P233, 1997 (translated from Chinese).
