On the 26th of March 2001, a Falun Gong practitioner and alumna of Temple University in Pennsylvania was invited as a guest of honor representing the Falun Gong Club to give a special lecture to the student congress. She began by briefly introducing Falun Dafa and proceeded to speak about the brutal persecution of Falun Dafa members in China. The audience was especially moved by the experiences of her family. She recounted how her parents and her younger brother were arrested several times just for making an appeal for Falun Gong. Her younger brother has been in a labor camp since last June because he refused to write "three letters" (promising not to practice Falun Gong, stating remorse for practicing in the past, and declaring separation from Falun Gong). She also recounted how he had been deprived of sleep for more than ten days at a stretch. At present, his wife is prevented from visiting him and she doesn't know his current situation. In the meeting, nearly all of the student representatives (dozens of people-translator) signed the letter initiated by Amnesty International to China's Prime Minister Zhu Rongji. The student congress spokesperson also announced, "The student association will send the letter to all representatives as soon as possible, and we would also like to ask each person to tell five other people to sign! We should then be able to collect up to 1,000 signatures." The following day, the Falun Gong Club of the University received a call from the student association informing them that there were many people inquiring about the time and location of our next Falun Dafa introduction class at the University.
