Right after Mr. Sun Chengshun came home from work in the morning on May 6, 2012, Wang Zhi, head of Bada Village in the Aimin District of Mudanjiang City came to visit him. During their conversation, Wang asked Mr. Sun if he still practiced Falun Gong. Mr. Sun said, “Yes, I still practice.” He also clarified the truth about Falun Gong and advised Wang to stop persecuting practitioners, because it wasn't good for his family or friends. Wang didn't want to listen to Mr. Sun and said, “I'm the head of the village. I must stop you from practicing. Since you live here, your continuing to practice is causing me trouble. Please move away, but give me your cell phone number so we can stay connected.”
Because they are relatives, Mr. Sun did not think too much about it and gave Wang his cell phone number. Five minutes after Wang left, Li Song, an officer with the Xinhua Police Department, broke into Mr. Sun's home and said he needed to talk to him. He called the police department and told them he was having a conversation with Mr. Sun. He then told Mr. Sun to go to the supermarket and buy him some soft drinks.
Shortly after, a car from Xinhua Police Station showed up. Li Jungang told Mr. Sun he had to go to the police department. Mr. Sun was taken to the police department and was interrogated regarding who he had contacted, where he got his Dafa books, and what activities he had participated in. Mr. Sun did not cooperate with them. They then took him to the detention center.
While Mr. Sun was at the police department, the police broke into his home and ransacked it. They took Dafa books and materials, "evidence" to persecute Mr. Sun.
Mr. Sun went on a hunger strike on May 18 to protest the persecution. His captors started inserting tubes into his stomach to force feed him on May 25. Three officers, including Li Song, carried Mr. Sun to a police car on June 5. They drove to a place not too far from the detention center. They pushed Mr. Sun down and force-fed him. Later, Mr. Sun was sent to Suihua Forced Labor Camp for two years. He is still detained there.
Mere Mention of the Word of “Practice” and Mr. Sun is Illegally Sentenced to Imprisonment
Mr. Sun used to have poor health. After he started practicing Falun Dafa, he regained his health once again. He also helped out whenever his neighbors and friends needed him. However, simply because he has continued to practice Falun Gong, he has been persecuted multiple times in the past ten years.
Tang Haisheng, an officer from Third Police Station in Hailin City, broke into Mr. Sun's house in 2000 and saw that he was reading Zhuan Falun. He took Mr. Sun's book and said, “The CCP does not allow people to practice Falun Gong. You've continued to practice, but from now on, you are not allowed to practice.” Mr. Sun said, “There's nothing wrong with being a good person and practicing Falun Gong. The many diseases I had before are all gone. Falun Gong saved my life, how could I give it up? When I suffered from many diseases in the past, why didn't you visit me?”
Tang Haishen saw that Mr. Sun was not going to obey him. He said, “You need to come with me and talk to the head of the police station.” When Mr. Sun met with the head of the police station, he said the same thing, that he was determined to continue practicing. He was then arrested and taken to Hailin City Detention Center and detained there for over 50 days before he was released.
Tang Haisheng and four other officers from Hailin City Police Department broke into Mr. Sun's home at 8:00 a.m. on November 16, 2002, and demanded to know whether he still practiced Falun Gong. Mr. Sun answered, “Yes!” One officer said, “The CCP doesn't allow you to practice. If you do, you are defying the Communist Party. You must hand in your books, or we'll take you to a forced labor camp or sentence you to prison.” Mr. Sun said, “The Constitution guarantees freedom of belief. Practicing Falun Gong is legal. Not allowing me to practice is actually illegal.” He refused to hand in his books and refused to cooperate with them.
The officers started ransacking his house and took his Dafa books and some materials. They also arrested him and his two daughters and took them to the city police department. Even though the police threatened the daughters, they refused to cooperate and were released.
The perpetrators interrogated Mr. Sun and demanded that he tell them where he got the materials and Dafa books, who he had contact, with and what activities he had participated in. Mr. Sun did not tell them anything. An officer whose last name is Jiang then put mustard oil in Mr. Sun's nose and eyes, then handcuffed him and covered his head with a plastic bag until he passed out. They cold water over his head and tortured him over and over again this way. Several months later, Mr. Sun was sentenced to six years of imprisonment and sent to Mudanjiang Prison.
In 2002, Mr. Sun was sent to Mudanjiang Prison, the largest prison in Heilongjiang Province. The 11 th ward is the worst place in the prison. The forced labor done there was making seat cushions for cars, and the workload was very intense. The inmates who could not finish their assignments were beaten.
At that time, Mr. Zhang Yutang, a practitioner from Mishan, could not finish his quota. They hit him with a stick every night, and he could not move afterwards. When Mr. Sun heard about this, he reported the abuse to the team leader, who did not even look into it.
One night inmate Li Jungang sent somebody to bring Mr. Sun to his cell. Li Jungang hit Mr. Sun's neck and heart area more than ten times. When he saw that Mr. Sun didn't say anything and didn't give in, he kicked at his lower body until he collapsed and couldn't move. Mr. Sun's ribs and lower back hurt for over two months, and his health deteriorated.
In the prison, practitioners had no rights. It was very difficult for them to meet with their families. Many practitioners' families were turned away by the prison when they came to visit. Mr. Di Shijie, a practitioner from Qitaihe City, is one example. His mother, who was close to 80, tried to visit her son many times. She waited for an entire morning at the prison gate but in the end she was not allowed to see her son. In tears, she to leave.
Two years after Mr. Sun was sent to prison, in April 2005, his wife and sister came to visit him. When his wife saw him, she was overwhelmed at his appalling condition. Speechless, she couldn't keep from crying. His sister said, “We came to visit you seven or eight times, but we were not allowed in. What have they done to you to make you look like this? We all miss you so much. Please come home!”
Many practitioners' families came to see their loved ones but left in tears. Mr. Sun talked to the head of the ward and asked to see the head of the prison to stop the persecution of practitioners. The head of the ward did not pay attention to him and told him to leave it alone.
Mr. Sun then refused to do the forced labor. Team leaders Wang Hui and Guo Hushan locked him up in a solitary cell, handcuffed him, and put shackles on his feet. Mr. Sun was kept this way for a month. They only gave him some steamed bun every day and one bottle of water every five days.
Right before the 2008 Olympics, the 6 th Prison Ward of Mudanjiang Prison searched practitioners' belongings multiple times. Practitioner Mr. Yu Zonghai was beaten by guards Ge Hua and Wang Hui and inmate Xie Shide. Guard Zhang Qingshan shocked practitioner Mr. Guan Lianbin with electric batons. Guard Zhao Lichun verbally abused Mr. Sun Chengshun and instigated inmates to search practitioners' belongings.
On November 15, 2008, Mr. Sun was finally released after six years of persecution.
Clarifying the Truth and Sent to Forced Labor Camp
Mr. Sun was clarifying the truth about Falun Gong to two students on Xinping Road in the afternoon on September 6, 2009, and was reported to the police. He was arrested by officers Sun Jun, Yang Lin, Du Yuanqiu, and others from Xinping Police Station. On September 7, he was transferred from Xinping Police Station to Mudanjiang Second Detention Center.
After Mr. Sun was detained, the Bada Village Committee cut off the water and electricity to his house and forced him to move out of the village. They forced the family to write a “guarantee statement” in order to let them live in the village. Mr. Sun was sentenced to one and half years of forced labor camp. He was sent to Suihua Forced Labor Camp. He was released in March 2011.
