(Minghui.org) The plight of Mr. Zheng Xiangxing and his family has received widespread attention both inside and outside of China since his arrest on February 25, 2012. The Minghui website has reported extensively on Mr. Zheng and New Tang Dynasty Television once interviewed Mr. Zheng's wife, Sun Suyun.
More than 10,000 local residents have signed a petition requesting Mr. Zheng's immediate release, yet the prison still insists he finish serving a 10-year term, inviting only more public condemnation.
More and more people are showing their support for Mr. Zheng by expressing sympathy on blogs, visiting his family in person, or offering financial help. Two human rights activists traveled to Baoding recently to visit Sun Suyun and her son.
On July 11, 2013, Ms. Kang Suping met with Sun Suyun and her son outside Baoding Prison.

Tears filled Ms. Kang's eyes as she listened to Ms. Sun recount her husband's ordeal. She could never have imagined the prison was capable of being so evil and heartless.
When Ms. Kang went inside the prison to request Mr. Zheng's release, more than ten guards surrounded her and threatened to have her arrested. She was not deterred. Though she didn't get Mr. Zheng released that day, her righteous behavior was widely praised online. She returned to Beijing that night and continued her efforts to gather more support for Mr. Zheng.
A few days later, on July 14, Shandong Province resident Mr. Kong went to Baoding to visit Sun Suyun and her son. He expressed his deep sympathy to the family and called for more people to pay attention to their plight. He indicated on his blog that he had telephoned Hu Jia (a well-known human rights activist in Beijing), and they both agreed that the prison should give a definitive answer to Sun Suyun's request to secure her husband's release.

Once a thug loathed by everyone, Mr. Zheng became highly-regarded and well-liked after he began to practice Falun Gong. However, just for holding firm to his faith, he was sentenced to 10 years on July 26, 2012, and sent to Baoding Prison on August 8.
Less than two months later, on October 26, Mr. Zheng sustained a severe brain injury when the guards tortured him. Instead of seeking the best possible medical care for him, the prison colluded with Baoding First Hospital to operate on him with a diabolical intention. Without his family's knowledge or consent, the doctors opened up his skull and removed the brain tissue responsible for thinking, memory, and expression, as well as a 10-cm piece of skull on either side of the brain.
The prison authorities were so sure that Mr. Zheng would either die or become a vegetable that they promised to release him on medical parole. However, they were shocked to see him make a partial recovery and even regain some memory. In order to cover up their crimes, they changed their minds and took Mr. Zheng back to the prison on February 21, 2013.
Mr. Zheng's health significantly deteriorated, yet the prison never had him evaluated medically after the surgery. His wife and son were extremely worried after noticing him emaciated and frail on a May 23 rd visit. Prison officials ignored their repeated pleas to have him released.
Unable to get the authorities to talk, Sun Suyun and her son have staged a public protest at the prison entrance. Every day they go there and tell people about Mr. Zheng.
The prison has sent out people to drive away those who stop to hear about Mr. Zheng's plight. In addition, they threaten Sun Suyun and her son all the time. On May 29 this year they caused Ms. Sun to have a heart attack after ripping open her clothes and exposing her bra. Because of the trauma and humiliation, she collapsed and was unable to move. Fortunately, she recovered that afternoon.
Despite the harassment and brutality, Ms. Sun and her son have been protesting outside the prison since October 28, 2012. They are encouraged by the visits from the two human rights activists and hope more people will join them to help secure their loved one's release.
