(Minghui.org) It has been nine months since married Falun Gong practitioners Hua Zhikai and Li Xueying were illegally arrested in June 2013. The couple was detained at the Qinhuangdao Detention Center, and a trial was originally scheduled for March 29, 2014. However, the trial was canceled for unspecified reasons and rescheduled for April 1. It is not clear if the trial actually took place, and if so, what the verdicts were.
The couple had both been illegally detained in the past.
On June 10, 2013, Ms. Li, a 43-year-old employee of the Qinhuangdao Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd., and 6 other Falun Gong practitioners were illegally arrested by more than 20 police officers at the toll-charge point bordering Hebei and Liaoning. The police then searched and ransacked Ms. Li's house and drove off with her family's car, saying that it would be confiscated.
Mr. Hua Zhikai, a lecturer at Qinhuangdao Technician College, was forced to leave home as officers waited to ambush him there.
The police later tracked him down and arrested him in Qian'an City on June 27, 2014. He was first detained at the Qian'an Detention Center, and then at a brainwashing center. He was later taken to the Qinhuangdao Detention Center, where he is still detained.
On September 18, 2004, Mr. Hua and Ms. Li were arrested while distributing truth-clarification materials. Their home was searched and ransacked, and their computers and other personal valuables were confiscated.
On the morning of April 21, 2006, Mr. Hua was arrested again by officers from the Domestic Security Division, the Yufengli Police Station, and members of the Security Section of the technician college where he worked. They also searched and ransacked his home, and later sent Mr. Hua to the Baoding Forced Labor Camp for one year of forced labor; the sentencing took place without following legal procedure.
While Mr. Hua was detained, his house was broken into and ransacked many times.
When Mr. Hua was released a year later, he was delirious and incoherent, and his arms were covered in scars. Even so, officers from the Domestic Security Division continued to harass him at his college. His colleagues were dumbfounded by such treatment: “Teacher Hua is such a nice person, but he has been persecuted to such an extent,” they said. “Yet, they still come to bother him. The police are really bad.”
Mr. Hua and Ms. Li strictly conduct themselves according the principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.” Because of this, they are regarded highly by their colleagues, family, and acquaintances.
In the face of Falun Gong's brutal persecution at the hands of the communist regime, the couple continues to hold strongly to their beliefs. Moreover, they diligently take time to tell people about the true situation of Falun Gong and the persecution.
More and more people in China are beginning to stand up for Falun Gong practitioners while calling for the release of those that are being detained. Moreover, as many as 7,241 people signed a petition by March 2 that called for the release of Mr. Hua and Ms. Li.
