(Minghui.org) Mr. Liu Yongrui and his wife Chan Jihua were arrested for filing criminal complaints against Jiang Zemin, former head of the Chinese communist regime who launched the violent persecution of Falun Gong in 1999.
After intercepting their complaint letters, police arrested the couple at their home on August 6. Officers handcuffed them to metal chairs at the police station and interrogated them for two days and nights.
Meanwhile, officers searched the couple's home and seized Falun Gong books, a notebook computer, a printer, and bank deposit books totaling more than 200,000 yuan. The police did not provide a full list of seized items.
Mr. Liu was later held at the Gaomi Detention Center for 15 days, while Ms. Chan is still being held in Weifang City Detention Center at the time of writing.
Those who carried out the arrest were officers from the Gaomi City Domestic Security Division and the Kanjia Township Police Station, along with the village secretary Gao Zhenzhong.
Previously Persecuted
In March 2005, several police officers jumped over a fence and broke into Ms. Chan's home. They ransacked the place, arrested her and her youngest daughter, and took them to the Gaomi Detention Center. Officers later released her daughter after extorting 1000 yuan from the family. Ms. Chan was taken to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp for two years.
Ms. Chan's youngest daughter was traumatized by the arrest and witnessing how her mother was tortured. She was often disoriented after the release and later passed away in a car accident.
Background
In 1999 Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other members of the Politburo Standing Committee and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.
The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners over the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.
Under his personal direction, the Communist regime established an extralegal security organization, called the 610 Office, on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.
Chinese law allows its citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
