(Minghui.org) A retired bank employee in Yingtan City was brutally tortured during her four-year imprisonment for her upholding her spiritual belief, Falun Gong. Her arms were almost disabled, and she still hasn't recovered her left hand function after she was released in October 2018.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body discipline based on the principles of “Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance” that has been persecuted by the communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Chang'e was arrested on October 10, 2014 for passing out Falun Gong flyers and sentenced to four years in Jiangxi Women's Prison by Bailuxiang Court in Yingtan City on January 29, 2015.
Prior to her latest imprisonment, she had been twice given forced labor, in 2002 and 2009, respectively, for her practice of Falun Gong.
Ms. Liu, 65, recently recounted to a Minghui correspondent some of the tortures she endured in the prison.
Ms. Liu said that the prison guards often instigated inmates to carry out specific tortures on her by promising them term reductions. In the first eight months there, she was often forced to stand for days without sleep. Sometimes the guards didn't allow her to wash herself or use the restroom.
In mid-January 2016, the guards locked Ms. Liu in a solitary confinement cell for two weeks in their attempt to make her renounce Falun Gong. The walls in the room were covered with propaganda posters attacking Falun Gong.
The guards hung her arms up from behind her back. Then they put constraint bands on her wrists and ankles, and tied them up.
Ms. Liu said the pain was excruciating and she felt her arms were broken. She couldn't even move her fingers.
To prevent her from screaming during the painful torture, the inmates covered her mouth with her socks and underwear. They threatened to torture her to death.
“The pain was indescribable. I was on the edge of breakdown and couldn't keep my mind clear and stable,” she said.
Eventually, she was made to curse Falun Gong against her will. After the guards put her down, she was forced to write a statement to renounce her faith.
For more than two weeks, she couldn't move her hands. Almost three years after the torture, she still hasn't fully regained function in her left hand.
According to insiders, inmate Anhui was instructed by guard Wu Jingmin to put unknown drugs into Ms. Liu's thermos every day from March 12, 2017 to late December that year.
Ms. Liu didn't discover what happened until one day when she sipped the water in the thermos and suddenly felt sharp nerve pain on the right side of her head. “I don't want to think about what could have happened if I drank the whole thermos of water,” she said.
From then on, she never used that thermos again (without Anhui's knowledge) and only drank tap water.
The insiders suspected Anhui had been adding more and more potent drugs over time, which eventually caused Ms. Liu to experience nerve pain.
