(Minghui.org) Mr. Luo Jingshan had edema and couldn't walk or talk when he was released from prison on April 1, 2018. He needed dialysis and often woke up from nightmares. He died on May 3 at the age of 65.
The Hulin City resident was arrested on August 11, 2015, after he was discovered browsing Minghui.org, a website that reports on the Chinese communist regime's persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
Mr. Luo's lawyer entered a not guilty plea on his behalf during his trial on January 14, 2016. The lawyer argued that his client should never have been prosecuted for exercising his constitutional right to freedom of belief.
The presiding judge sentenced Mr. Luo to 2.5 years in prison two weeks later. His appeal was turned down.
Mr. Luo became critically ill while he was being held in the local detention center and was released on medical parole on February 20, 2016. He was taken back into custody on March 25, 2016, and sent straight to the local prison.
Mr. Luo's health continued to deteriorate, and he died barely a month after he was released from prison.
