(Minghui.org) Part 3: The Benefits of Falun Gong: Teachers (Part 3)
In China, even some schoolteachers have fallen prey to the decline in moral values. Many have collected money from and harassed their students.
However, teachers who practice Falun Gong follow the practice's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in their daily lives. This article highlights four such teachers and how they have held to their faith during the 19-year persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese communist regime.
Both Ms. Liu Xiuchun and Mr. Chen Tongqing were high school teachers in Hebei Province. Both were tormented by multiple diseases. Mr. Chen's asthma made it difficult for him to breathe all year round, and his rheumatoid arthritis and intestinal hernia made him unable to walk. Ms. Liu had had a weak heart since age 30 and often passed out. She also had stomach disease and hypertension. What pained her the most, however, was chronic insomnia. In 1990, Ms. Liu developed a throat problem and could not breathe or talk normally.
The couple suffered every day through the 80s and 90s. Ms. Liu often said to her husband: “Have our lives reached a dead end?” Mr. Chen's answer was usually, “If it weren’t for our children, I would kill myself.”
In January 1998, Chen acquired a copy of Zhuan Falun, the main book of Falun Gong. The couple read it and came to the same conclusion, “It’s a great book.” They then joined the local exercise group.
A month later, a miracle happened: both husband and wife recovered from their diseases. Their kids were surprised and happy. Their eldest son told everyone around, “My folks' health problems were fixed by Falun Gong. They can do physical labor now. Our family is happy now. Falun Gong is really great!”
Not only did their health improve but their minds also changed—they no longer fought for personal gain.
In September 1999, Mr. Chen was a hit by a car and came to a stop 20 yards away. His bicycle was destroyed. Many victims in China would very likely take the opportunity to extort a considerable amount of money from the driver. However, as passersby wondered whether Mr. Chen was still alive or needed to be sent to the hospital, he got up and said, “You guys can go. I’m fine.” He did not ask for a penny from the driver.
Ms. Li Shuhua was a teacher in Holingele, Inner Mongolia. She had chronic heart disease, hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis, cholecystitis, and other diseases. She often had to call in sick and sometimes could not even do housework. No medicine worked on her, and she almost lost her faith in life. Due to poor health and poor memory, she had to retire early in June 1998.
In March 1999, she began to practice Falun Gong. Within a few months, she was restored to full health and could carry heavy items up and down the stairs in her apartment building. She could now take over much of the heavy labor that had burdened her husband.
In daily life, Ms. Li follows Falun Gong’s principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.” She has become more compassionate to people and gave up her competitive mentality. Before she started practicing Falun Gong, she often fought with her husband. Their relationship is now more harmonious, and Ms. Li also helps her neighbors and voluntarily cleans up her residential community.
Ms. Li Yulian from Chengzhou City, Hunan Province, has won numerous “model teacher” awards at the city, county, and provincial levels since 1985. She has also taught several “model classes.”
However, the award-winning teacher suffered greatly illnesses. Since she was young, Ms. Li had stomach disease, gallbladder inflammation, kidney problems, cervical erosion, and insomnia. She tried many therapies, but her symptoms only worsened.
In February 1999, a co-worker of hers introduced Falun Gong to her. According to Ms. Li, the five months before July 1999—before the Chinese Communist Party launched its persecution of Falun Gong—were the happiest time of her life. She learned the true meaning of life: returning to one’s true self. Her illnesses were cured, and her emotional and spiritual outlook shown through her smile every day.
Before cultivation, she considered herself a good person. But when measuring herself against the principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance,” she found many selfish thoughts within herself and an attachment to personal gain. Living by the principles of Falun Gong, Ms. Li refused to accept gifts and cash from students’ parents.
Like many of the 100 million people in China who were practicing Falun Gong before the Communist Party’s suppression began in 1999, these teachers were severely persecuted for their faith.
Ms. Liu Xiuchun and Mr. Chen Tongqing were both sentenced to prison. Mr. Chen was tortured to death. Their oldest son became mentally ill due to the psychological pressure.
Ms. Li Shuhua has been arrested multiple times and held in a labor camp for two years for her belief in Falun Gong.
Ms. Li Yulian has been detained multiple times. Her family has lived in fear through these years.
