(Minghui.org) A Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province resident was transferred to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison on September 14, 2021, after her appeal against a seven-year prison sentence for practicing Falun Gong was rejected.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wang Yuhong, a 54-year-old accountant at a seed store, was arrested on July 9, 2020, in a police sweep. She appeared in Ranghulu District Court on December 15, 2020, and was sentenced to seven years with a 70,000-yuan fine on December 23.
She appealed with the Daqing City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold her original verdict on April 2, 2021.
Ms. Wang’s family then filed a motion to reconsider her case. The intermediate court responded in May that they would hold a hearing of her case within six months.
In August 2021, without holding an open hearing, the judge of the higher court sentenced Ms. Wang again to seven years. She was taken to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison on September 14.
When her family went to the prison to visit her, the guards rejected them, citing the pandemic as an excuse. Ms. Wang’s family said they have been denied family visits ever since her arrest, whether there were local outbreaks or not.
Since the onset of the persecution, Ms. Wang has been arrested and detained several times, and her home was ransacked by authorities. She and her husband, who also practices Falun Gong, were both fired from previous jobs for refusing to renounce their faith.
