(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 19 cities or counties in 12 provinces, where at least 34 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
Ms. Yang Guifen, 67, and Ms. Wang Xiuhuan, 65, from Hongshan District, were arrested by the Hongshan District police while posting Falun Gong materials on August 8, 2020.
The police ransacked the homes of both practitioners on the following day. From Ms. Yang’s home, they confiscated 37 Falun Dafa books, over 200 copies of Minghui Weekly and Zhengjian Weekly, a set of DVDs of lectures given by Falun Gong’s founder, a photo of the founder of Falun Gong, a recorder, and printed materials. They confiscated from Ms. Wang’s home two photos of the founder of Falun Gong, four copies of Falun Dafa books, five copies of weekly publications, two recorders, and printed materials.
Both practitioners were taken to the police station. The officers pressured them to sign paperwork, which they refused. They were later taken to the Hongshan District Detention Center at 9 o’clock that night.
They were tried on January 14, 2021. Ms. Yang was sentenced to one year in prison and fined 5,000 yuan. Ms. Wang was sentenced to six months in prison and fined 900 yuan.
Ms. Wang was later sentenced to an additional month and fined 3,000 yuan for clarifying the truth about Falun Gong to detention guard Gao.
Mr. Gu Jiushou, 82, a retired laboratory engineer from Chongqing University, was reported to the police while talking to people about Falun Gong at a bus station at noon on May 24, 2021. He was arrested by police officers and police assistants from the Yubei Road Police Station. The officers handcuffed him, pushed him into the police car, and took him to the police station for interrogation. Mr. Gu told the officers that practicing Falun Gong is legal and freedom of belief is protected by law.
Officers searched his bag and removed Falun Gong keepsakes, two Falun Gong booklets, and some cards for unrestricted Internet access. They placed these items on a table to photograph them. Mr. Gu told them that Article 99 and Article 100 of the “Order No. 50” issued by the General Administration of Press and Publication on March 1, 2011, had abolished the ban on Falun Gong books and publications. Falun Gong books and publications are all legal products.
The officers decided to issue a ten-day administrative detention, but would not carry it out. They pressured Mr. Gu to sign his name on this decision, which he refused.
At 11 o’clock that night, the officers asked Mr. Gu’s son to take him home. Mr. Gu found out after returning home that the officers pressured his son to sign the administrative detention decision before releasing him.
Staff members of the Longshan Sub-district Administration Office harassed Ms. Yu Guofen, who is in her 70s, at her home. They entered the room and demanded to take pictures and tore the “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good” poster off the wall. Ms. Yu refused.
Officers from the Xiaozhaimen Township Police Station went to Ms. Shao Yinghui’s home on May 7, 2021, and wanted to take photos of her, but she refused to allow it. They took out a form and told her to fill it out, with entries including her name, national ID number, home address, whether she had an Internet connection, and whether she had a computer.
Ms. Guan Suhua, in her 80s, and her family were preparing to take the high-speed train at Hefei South Railway Station to Beijing to visit her younger brother. She and her family had already boarded the train. Suddenly a group of people got on the train and pulled Ms. Guan off the train, saying that her case was still open and she could not go to Beijing.
They also wanted to register the name, address, phone number, and other information of her brother in Beijing, but she refused to give them the information.
Ms. Guan’s trip was interrupted, but she was not compensated for the cost of the high-speed rail tickets.
Ms. Chen Yujie and Ms. Wei Xiuying went to Linghai City to let people know about Falun Dafa on the morning of May 25, 2021. On their way back, while waiting for the bus at the Linghai Park bus stop, a group of police officers suddenly showed up and arrested them.
Deputy chief Du Haipeng from the Dalinghe Police Department, along with seven or eight plainclothes officers, took Ms. Chen to her home at around 2 o’clock that afternoon and ransacked the place.
Ms. Chen was taken to the Jinzhou City Women’s Detention Center. Ms. Wei failed the medical examination and was released on medical parole.
Ms. Wang Jingcui from the No. 5 Oil Production Plant was arrested at her son’s home by eight officers from the Honggang Police Department. She was taken to the Daqing City No. 2 Detention Center. No family visits have been allowed.
Ms. Chen Hanzhen, 67, was arrested by officers from the Yiyuan Street Police Station, the 610 Office, and household registration officers in the Kunhouli area in the Jiang’an District on May 21, 2021. Her current whereabouts are unknown.
Tangshan City police broke into Mr. Li Aijun’s home, photographed the place, and asked if he still practiced Falun Gong. They told him to go to the police station. Mr. Li clarified the truth about Falun Gong to them. They walked around inside and outside the house and then left.
Yu Jia (gender unknown) was arrested at home by officers from the Tuchengzi Police Station, Longtan District, on May 13, 2021. The officers ransacked the place and confiscated Falun Dafa books, a seal, and desk calendars. Yu was detained for five days.
Two officers from the Dongjiuzhai Town Police Station, led by the Dongzhangzhuang Village Patry secretary, went to Ms. Wang Haiying’s home on the morning of May 11, 2021. They videotaped her and asked her if she still practiced Falun Gong. They also pressured her to sign paperwork.
Cases of Ms. Gao Hua, Ms. Gao Ying, and Wang Yandong (gender unknown) were turned over to the Suizhong County Procuratorate on May 25, 2021. Ms. Gao Ying returned home on May 26.
Ms. Wu Yanwen was arrested by officers from the Zhongyi Police Station on May 26, 2021. Her son Mr. Luo Liteng was arrested by officers from the Railway Police Station at the Macheng City Train Station on May 21. He was held in the Macheng Detention Center.
Ms. Ren Yanjun, 79, was tried by the Shangjie District Court at 2 p.m. on May 12, 2021. No family members were allowed to attend. She was sentenced to three years in prison, but the verdict has not been issued. The court told her to go home and wait for the notice.
Ms. Bao Julian was arrested on May 21, 2021, at her home by officers from the Siwei Street Police Station and staff members of the Siwei Street Community Management Office, in the Jiang’an District. She was taken to a brainwashing center.
Ms. Liu Yanxiang from Liaoning Province was arrested in Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province. Her home was ransacked. She is being held in a detention center in Shaoxing City.
Eight plainclothes officers, including Ma Yun from the Sanjie Police Station in the Mengyang Sub-district, harassed 70-year-old Mr. Zhang Zuyi at his home in Luowanjie Village on May 17, 2021. The officers claimed that Mr. Zhang interfered with other people. They forcibly pushed him into a car. Mr. Zhang did not cooperate with them and fell from the car. He was injured and could not move his hands and feet.
The officers took him to the Pengzhou Stone Diseases Specialist Hospital for examination. It turned out that the bones in Mr. Zhang's hands and feet were fractured, and the doctor said he needed surgery. When Mr. Zhang’s family told the police officers to pay, they left to avoid being held responsible. The officers also threatened that Mr. Zhang would be put on the watch list for half a year, and that he would not be allowed to go out to clarify the truth.
Mr. Zhang’s feet were put in casts, and his son took him home. Mr. Zhang can no longer take care of himself.
Ms. Dai Jianying, in her 50s, from Xuanhua County, put a piece of Falun Gong informational material on an urban management vehicle parked in the street on the morning of May 26, 2021. An urban management staff member spotted her and called the police.
Two officers came and forcibly dragged her towards the police car, but she resisted. Two more police officers were later called in. They took her to the Nanguanqiao Police Station in Xuanhua City.
The officers asked her where she was from, where her family was, and where the materials came from. She refused to answer. The police forcibly photographed her. Later, they may have identified her via facial recognition and called her husband. Her husband took her home at around 2 o’clock that afternoon.
Mr. Yang Jiamin was arrested at his rented home in Wuchang District by officers from the Jiang’an District Police Department on May 25, 2021. The officers ransacked the place and confiscated a printer and a cell phone.
The Dandong City Political and Legal Affairs Committee and the 610 Office have ordered police officers in various Dandong police stations to carry out the “zero-out” campaign since May 2021. Many Falun Gong practitioners and their family members have received harassing calls from the residential police officers or were directly harassed at their homes.
Two residential officers from the Mashi Border Police Station in Jiuliancheng Town went to the homes of practitioners Ms. Dai Guimei, Ms. Liu Zhuyun, Ms. Zhang Chunmei, and Zhang Xinhua (gender unknown) in Hexidian Village and Shangjian Village on May 13 and May 17. Officers pressured practitioners to write and sign a three statements document. The practitioners refused to cooperate.
Two officers from the Border Police Station went to the homes of Ms. Wang Xueying and Ms. Jiang Fuying on May 14. They wanted to photograph Ms. Jiang, but she refused. The officers told Ms. Wang that they were residential officers and asked if she distributed Falun Gong materials. After they walked around her home they left.
Officers from the Liudaogou Police Station called Ms. Chen Huiyan on May 17, and said that they wanted to visit her at her home. The next day, Ms. Chen went to the police station, and the police asked, “Are you still practicing Falun Gong?” Chen replied, “After I practiced Falun Gong, my heart disease, high blood pressure, leg pain, and other illnesses disappeared. I am over 70 years old and physically fit. Falun Gong practitioners adhere to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Is there anything wrong with following these three principles?”
Two officers from the Zhenzhu Road Police Station went to Ms. Yang Jingmei’s home at around 3:00 p.m. on May 24. Ms. Yang was not at home. Ms. Yang’s family told the officers that she had been sentenced to prison. The officers said that she should go to the police station to register when she comes back. They asked Ms. Yang’s sister whether she also practiced Falun Gong. They also asked where Ms. Yang is now. The family members did not answer the questions.
Ms. Mo Liqiong was arrested by Yang Jia, deputy director of the Yangjiaqiao Police Station, on February 5, 2021. She has been held in the Xiangtan City Detention Center.
Ms. Mo’s case was transferred from the Xiangtan County Procuratorate to the Yuhu District Procuratorate on May 8. Before June 7, Ms. Mo will be tried by the Yuhu District Court.
