(Minghui.org) A Dalian City, Liaoning Province resident was recently sentenced to eight years in prison for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that she credits with curing her severe depression.
Ms. Liu Zhonghua, in her 50s, was a business executive at a foreign company before she retired. Due to years of hard work and anxiety worrying about her child’s academic performance, she developed severe depression and insomnia.
She was introduced to Falun Gong in 2010. Living by Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, and doing its five exercises, Ms. Liu’s condition soon disappeared. Despite the ongoing persecution by the Chinese communist regime since 1999, she remained firm in her belief and gained a new outlook on life.
Officers from the Qingniwaqiao Police Station secretly removed the peephole on her front door on June 2, 2021, and opened the door through the opening. Ms. Liu was then arrested, and her Falun Gong books, informational materials, and printer were confiscated. She has since been held at the Yaojia Detention Center.
It was reported that Ms. Liu’s arrest was ordered by the Liaoning Province 610 Office, an extralegal agency created specifically to persecute Falun Gong. Several other practitioners were arrested on the same day.
Ms. Liu was tried by the Ganjingzi District Court on November 2, 2021. The presiding judge, Lu Dandan, sentenced her to eight years in prison with a 50,000 yuan fine on December 24.
