(Minghui.org) A Tianshui City, Gansu Province, woman has been harassed several times in recent months for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wang Caifeng, a teacher, received a call from staff members of the Daqiao Community on the morning of November 8, 2023, and was told to report to their office that afternoon. She didn’t agree to the demand. At noon, the leadership at her school told her that they’d received a call from higher-ups and were instructed to take her to the Daqiao Community office that afternoon.
After Ms. Wang arrived at the community office, the staffers there took her photos and asked for her personal information. Shortly after, the secretary of the Maiji District Political and Legal Affairs Committee, an extra-judiciary agency tasked with overseeing the persecution, ordered Ms. Wang to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong. She refused to comply and clarified the facts about Falun Gong.
The secretary refused to listen and said they were just going through formalities. He offered to draft the statement for Ms. Wang and that she just needed to sign it. She insisted there was no way she would ever sign such a statement. In the end, the secretary said he would giving her one week to think about it. If she still didn’t sign, they would turn her over to the police. It’s not clear if the police have as yet approached Ms. Wang.
Prior to the latest episode, Ms. Wang was harassed on August 29, 2023. Several officers with the Domestic Security Office approached her at work and demanded her cellphone. When she didn’t comply, they followed her to her classroom and snatched the phone as soon as she picked it up.
The police took Ms. Wang to the police station and searched her phone. Finding Falun Gong information in it, they took photos of her. She tried to clarify the facts about Falun Gong and encourage them not to participate in the persecution. They refused to listen and said that as long as the communist regime was still implementing the persecution policy, there was no way they could ignore it. She was later released on bail.
This wasn’t the first time that Ms. Wang was targeted for her faith. Because she filed a criminal complaint in 2015 against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the Chinese communist regime who ordered the persecution, the Maiji District Education Bureau suspended her salary in January 2016 and threatened to fire her. She was also harassed on September 5, 2016, and ordered to write a statement to renounce Falun Gong. She didn’t comply. Given her persistent efforts to seek justice, the education bureau returned her salary in early December 2016.
