(Minghui.org) [Editors’ Note: In both Western and Chinese culture, the principle of karmic retribution, that is, being held ultimately accountable for one’s own actions, is widely accepted. The fundamental teaching of Falun Gong is Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The universe will reward acts that are in harmony with these principles, while beating, torturing, and killing people will incur karmic retribution. Stated another way, good deeds will be rewarded with good, while doing evil will meet due retribution. Articles such as this one are meant as a compassionate reminder of this principle to those who would commit wrongdoing.]
When the Chinese Communist Party ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, it mobilized the entire country to participate in the campaign. In addition to the police who arrest the practitioners, prosecutors and judges who sentence the practitioners to prison, as well as detention center and prison guards who torture the practitioners, the general public and residential committee staff members are also incentivized to monitor and report the practitioners.
While many of these people claimed they didn’t believe in karmic retribution for doing bad deeds, over 10,000 retribution cases of various government officials, police officers or regular citizens have been documented by Minghui.org since the onset of the persecution. Some of the perpetrators died of diseases, some were struck by lightning and died, some died in car accidents, some committed suicide, and some others lost their jobs or were sentenced.
This article include cases of members of the general public who received karmic retribution for taking part in the persecution.
Retribution Cases in Sichuan Province
Hu Faming was the director of a crop production team in Miyi County, Sichuan Province. His team often received Falun Gong materials around 2000. He always turned in the materials to the township government, resulting in the materials being destroyed each time.
Hu was found to have liver cancer a year later and soon died. Shortly after his death, his father, son and wife also passed away one after another, leaving behind his grandson.
Gu Xingji, a Guabang Town, Miyi County resident in his 60s, reported a Falun Gong practitioner for talking to people about the persecution on the street. The police showed up and arrested the practitioner. Three months later, Gu was found to have cancer and died shortly after.
Retribution Case in Liaoning Province
Dong Yanxue was the accounting director of Baijia Village, Jinzhou District, Dalian City, Liaoning Province. While he was on a regular patrol in the village on January 21, 2001, he found some Falun Gong posters on the exterior wall of the village committee office building. Upon seeing a Falun Gong practitioner distributing flyers, he called the police to report the practitioner. When other practitioners tried to persuade him not to participate in the persecution, Dong said many times, “Why didn’t I receive karmic retribution?” One day in the fall of 2003, Dong suddenly felt unwell. He went to the hospital for a physical examination and was found to have late-stage lung cancer. He died 70 days later.
Retribution Cases in Guizhou Province
Three residents in a residential area in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province were found to have cancer in the summer of 2022. All of them worked for the residential committee and participated in the persecution.
Bao Guangxing, in her 70s, was found to have rectal cancer and received chemotherapy. While she was the director of the residential committee, she went to the Lannigou Brainwashing Center to brainwash practitioners from her neighborhood detained there and deceived them into writing statements to renounce Falun Gong. She also forced one elderly practitioner to turn in her Falun Gong books by threatening to raid her home. The practitioner was deeply pained by the ordeal.
Fan Chengzhang, also in his 70s and a residential committee director, developed lung cancer. While he was in office, he worked with the community workers to monitor the daily lives of Falun Gong practitioners living in the neighborhood.
The third was Chang Jin. During the “Zero-out” harassment campaign, he often called practitioners’ cellphones to harass them. He led the police to break into the practitioners’ homes and sometimes used intimidation and deceit to try to have the practitioners sign statements to renounce Falun Gong.
In addition, Chang tried to sow discord between the practitioners and their family members, including turning the practitioners’ children against them by pressuring their workplace to fire them. Chang died of cancer in August 2022. He was 61.
