Belated News: Jiangxi Woman Jailed for Two Years for Practicing Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) The Minghui.org website recently learned that an elderly resident of Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, was jailed for two years between 2019 and 2021, for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Ye Julan had just returned home at around 11 a.m. on September 4, 2019, when eight officers from the Dongxiang District Domestic Security Division in Fuzhou City (which neighbors Nanchang City) broke in and handcuffed her. They forced her to sit on the couch and did not allow her to talk or move. They spent two hours raiding her home and confiscated all her Falun Gong books, a portrait of Falun Gong’s founder, her computer, cell phone, and more than 500 yuan in cash.

The police interrogated Ms. Ye for more than ten hours before taking her to the hospital for a physical examination at around 11 p.m. that day. She was found to have dangerously high blood pressure. Despite the hospital’s recommendation to have her admitted for inpatient care, the police took her to the Fuzhou City Detention Center right after the checkup.

Ms. Ye was later sentenced to two years and transferred to the Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison. She was initially held at Team Two of Division Two. The guards there instigated the inmates to mistreat her. One day an inmate ordered her to admit she was a criminal. Ms. Ye refused, and the inmate slapped her in the face several times and ordered her to recite the prison rules.

The inmates also forced Ms. Ye to stand for more than ten hours every day. Her blood pressure shot up to over 200 mmHg (the normal range is 120 or lower). She was also provided with only a limited amount of food and not allowed to wash her face or take a shower.

Ms. Ye held firm to her faith and was reassigned to the strict management team, which was designated to torture steadfast Falun Gong practitioners. The guards and inmates there ordered her to press her fingerprints on paper slips containing words slandering Falun Gong and its founder. She refused to comply. They grabbed her hair and punched and kicked her, and then forcibly grabbed her hand to fingerprint the paper slips.

A guard once punched Ms. Ye in the head several times. She was also not allowed to use the restroom as she needed. Her stomach once hurt badly, but the guard on duty ordered her to admit she was a criminal, or she would have to wait for the pre-scheduled restroom breaks. She refused to admit the non-existent guilt, and almost passed out for not being able to use the restroom.
