(Minghui.org) Ms. Jiang Chunmei was sent to the strict management team, after she was admitted to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison on December 25, 2023, to serve a five-year term for practicing Falun Gong.
Because both Ms. Jiang’s husband and older son passed away in the persecution of Falun Gong, she had no other immediate family member who could make a cash deposit to her commissary account so she could buy daily necessities. It is reported that she does work for the inmates in the cell to earn money.
Ms. Jiang, a former lecturer at the Foreign Language Department of Mudanjiang City Normal College, Heilongjiang Province, moved in with her parents in Longjiang County in 2018 to care for them, after serving a 14-year prison sentence (October 2003 – October 2017) for practicing Falun Gong. Her husband and older son both lost their lives to the persecution in 2009, while she was still in prison.
Her latest arrest took place on December 18, 2022. The police indicated that they were seeking to prosecute her for her earlier arrest on March 27, 2020 for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. Back then, the police snatched her house keys and ransacked her home. To avoid the persecution, she lived away from home to hide from the police, only to be arrested again two years later.
The Longhua Police Station in Longjiang County submitted Ms. Jiang’s case to the Longjiang County Procuratorate in early February 2023. The Longjiang County Court held a hearing about her case on May 24 and sentenced her to five years in early July 2023.
Known Tactics Used to Abuse Jailed Practitioners
According to insiders, once practitioners placed in the strict management team, they were made to sit on small stools from 3:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, all the while being forced to watch anti-Falun Gong video played on a loop. They were not allowed to talk to each other. Those who still refused to renounce Falun Gong were verbally abused and brutally beaten. They were also not allowed to use the restroom, and so some soiled their pants as a result. The guards also restricted or totally barred them from purchasing daily necessities, while limiting their meals to two per day on the weekends.
Many practitioners imprisoned there were injured, and at least 32 of them died as a result of torture over the years.
