(Minghui.org) It has been confirmed by Minghui.org in late November 2024 that two residents of Neijiang City, Sichuan Province have been sentenced to prison for their shared faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Chen Darong, 74, and Ms. Huang Daihua were arrested on September 12, 2023, together with five other practitioners while studying Falun Gong books at a private home. The police raided most practitioners’ homes and confiscated their Falun Gong books and other personal items. They were all taken to the Dongxing Police Station for interrogation.

Ms. Chen, Ms. Huang and the other four female practitioners, including Ms. Mo Qun, Ms. Long Qilin, Ms. Chen Shuqin, and Ms. Zhu Dianqun, all over 70 years old, were released on bail after several days of interrogation. The seventh practitioner, Mr. Tan Shuncheng, around 50, remained in detention.

The seven practitioners appeared in the Dongxing District Court on April 29, 2024. It was confirmed in late November 2024 that both Ms. Chen Darong and Ms. Huang were sentenced to prison, receiving 2 years and 1.5 years, respectively. Both are allowed to serve time outside of prison. Ms. Chen, who is currently hospitalized due to an unknown medical condition, was also fined 6,000 yuan. It’s not clear whether the other five practitioners were sentenced.

This is the second time that Ms. Chen has been sentenced for her faith in Falun Gong. She was previously arrested on July 26, 2009 and held at the Dongxing District Detention Center. The Dongxing District Court sentenced her to three years on December 18, 2009. She was admitted to the Sichuan Province Women’s Prison on January 14, 2010 and released on July 25, 2012.
