(Minghui.org) A 67-year-old resident of Wuhan City, Hubei Province, remains detained following her arrest in mid-April 2023 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) since July 1999.
Ms. Zhu Huimin, a retired chemistry teacher of the Wuhan City First Business School, was seized after she talked to a taxi driver about Falun Gong and he reported her to the police. Her home was raided afterwards and she was taken to the Wuhan City First Detention Center, where she remains.
The Hanyang District Procuratorate issued a formal arrest warrant for Ms. Zhu at the end of May 2023. It is unclear whether she has been indicted for her faith.
This is not the first time that Ms. Zhu has been targeted for her faith. She previously served two forced labor terms totaling two years (2002-2003 and 2008-2009) and was brutally tortured each time. She was force-fed, shocked with electric batons, hung up, and deprived of sleep. (Please see the first related report for details of what she was subjected to).
Each time after her labor camp term ended, Ms. Zhu was not immediately released, but was instead taken to a brainwashing center for further persecution. One of her former students managed to locate the brainwashing center where she was taken right after she completed a second forced labor term in 2009. However, he was not allowed to visit her. He later wrote an article to express his appreciation to Ms. Zhu for guiding him to be a better person and to call for her release. (Please see the second related report for details of the letter).
Ms. Zhu was arrested again on April 24, 2012, by officers from the Wuhan City Police Department who had been following her. They took her to the Wuhan City First Detention Center. After that, they raided her home. They pried open her door and confiscated her computer, Falun Gong books and informational materials.
The police also went to Ms. Zhu’s parents’ home. With the help of the local street committee, they deceived the elderly couple into opening the door and searched Ms. Zhu’s childhood bedroom.
Ms. Zhu was sentenced to five years in October 2012 and suffered brutal torture while serving time at the Hubei Province Women’s Prison. She went on a hunger strike in protest and was put in solitary confinement many times. The guards instructed the inmates to force-feed her on a regular basis and she became very weak as a result. She was released on April 22, 2017.
