(Minghui.org) For many years, guards at the Shandong Province Women’s Prison in the capital city of Jinan have been using various torture methods in an attempt to force wrongfully jailed Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their faith.
As soon as the practitioners are admitted to the prison, they are forced to go through various physical examinations. Over 90% of them would be found to have “many diseases” they had never had before and then forced to take medications and be on dietary restrictions. Some weren’t allowed to eat steamed buns or rice congee for years and could only eat cornbread. If the practitioners refused to take the drugs, the guards would instruct the inmates to add the drugs to the practitioners’ food without their knowledge.
Those who refuse to renounce Falun Gong would be held in a dark room of less than 10 square meters (about 100 square feet) and not allowed to have contact with others or file complaints with the prison leadership. The inmates assigned to monitor them didn’t allow them to talk, wash themselves, or walk around at will. They had to write a formal application and admit that they were criminals if they needed to use the restroom. For one and a half months, each person was only given one roll of toilet paper bought with their own money. Some practitioners were forced to relieve themselves in their pants and not allowed to change or take showers.
The guards also drew blood from each practitioner every ten days. Every day from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., they were forced to sit on a small stool motionless, with their hands on their knees. Most of them saw their buttocks fester as a result. Many of them were deprived of sleep as well.
Ms. Song Aiyu, a 71-year-old Linyi City, Shandong Province, resident, was arrested in October 2022, after being followed by the police for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong near the Lanshan District Police Station. She was sentenced to seven years and eight months at the end of 2022 and soon admitted to prison. When her family visited her on an unknown date, she was in very poor shape due to severe torture. Her back was nearly 90-degree hunched and she weighed less than 40 kg (88 lbs).
Ms. Zhang Xiulan was transferred from the Jimo Detention Center to the prison in 2022 to serve an eight-year term. When her family visited her in June 2024, she was in poor health condition and emaciated. Two inmates pushed her out in a wheelchair. She was so weak that she couldn’t remain seated by herself. One inmate had to support her back and the other one held the microphone for her. Her voice was very low and she told her family that she felt uncomfortable after eating a little. Despite her condition, the prison refused to release her on medical parole.
Ms. Li Fengying was admitted to the prison on August 8, 2023, also to serve an eight-year term. She was soon diagnosed with lymphoma and uterine cancer. Her request to be released on medical parole was denied. When her family visited her recently, it took her over one hour to walk a short distance to the visitation room.
