(Minghui.org) A 53-year-old resident of Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province was admitted to the Hebei Province Women’s Prison on November 20, 2024 to serve a two-year term.
Ms. Du Lijuan was arrested on March 13, 2024 for talking to people about the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Gong. She was given 15 days of administrative detention at the Qinhuangdao City Lockup. On March 28, the police put her on criminal detention and transferred her to the Qinhuangdao City Detention Center. She stood trial at a local court around November 2024 and was sentenced to two years at an unknown time. Minghui.org only recently confirmed her prison admission.
Ms. Du took up Falun Gong in the early 1990s, but stopped practicing after the persecution began in July 1999. She had a stroke in 2016 and decided to resume practicing Falun Gong. She soon made a full recovery and felt compelled to raise awareness of the persecution and to share the goodness of Falun Gong with the public. Prior to her latest prison sentence, she was arrested on April 21, 2022 and taken to the Yuguan Town Police Station. The police searched her and collected her fingerprints and toe-prints. She was released hours later.
According to other practitioners, Ms. Du was likely sentenced by the same Funing District Court that wrongly convicted at least six other locals since 2023 for practicing Falun Gong, including Ms. Hao Liping (two years and ten months), Mr. Liu Changjin (three years), Ms. Ma Yanhua (three and a half years years), Mr. Zhao Huanzhen (four and a half years), Mr. Shi Keqin (four and a half years), and Ms. Meng Zhaohong (term unknown).
