Mr. Zhang Maoxin, of Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong in the fall of 2001. After being escorted back to Jiujiang, he was taken directly to the Majialong Forced Labor Camp.
The police shocked Mr. Zhang with electric batons, stomped on him, and beat him. His body was covered with bruises and burns. The police refused to provide him with any food or water, yet they claimed that he was on a hunger strike. They began force-feeding him after a few days,. Already very weak from the torture and starvation, Mr. Zhang died right there during the force feeding.
To shirk responsibility, the labor camp told Mr. Zhang’s family that he died from hunger strike. Also to prevent her family from investigating his death, they detained his wife for over a year, and daughter for several months.
