Commending Shen Yun and Condemning the Chinese Communist Regime’s Transnational Repression
Joel Lopez, Mayor of the City of Giddings, issued a proclamation for Shen Yun on September 22.
Mayor Joel Lopez of Giddings issued a proclamation for Shen Yun Performing Arts on September 22, 2025, praising Shen Yun for showcasing the essence of divinely inspired culture with exquisite performances, benefiting the community and the country. He also praised Shen Yun artists for their courage and kindness in the face of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) transnational repression.
Mayor Lopez stated in the proclamation: “The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) not only persecutes Falun Dafa but has also launched a transnational campaign of repression targeting Shen Yun. Its tactics include pressuring theaters to cancel performances, bomb threats, spreading disinformation via social media and overseas media outlets, and even using lawfare.
“Facing the repression and threats, Shen Yun artists continued to give their all, inspire their audiences, and bring hope to the world. Their courage, kindness and forbearance are remarkable and commendable, and are a great treasure to human kind.”
“I, Joel Lopez, Mayor of the City of Giddings, do hereby proclaim, and recognize Shen Yun Performing Arts for its exceptional artistic perfection, its great contribution to our communities, and its outstanding endurance in adversity.”
The Proclamations Help End the Persecution
Ms. Huang, a representative of Shen Yun’s Texas organizers, was invited to the proclamation presentation ceremony in Giddings. During the ceremony, the mayor and council members expressed their concern about the CCP’s transnational repression. Ms. Huang explained that the CCP’s persecution has long relied on two conditions: First, no one knows about the persecution, and second, no one opposes it, allowing the CCP to operate with impunity.
“An award sends a clear message to the world and the CCP: We are aware of these atrocities, the people of our city recognize what is happening, and we are willing to speak out for justice. This is a powerful warning to the CCP: Stop persecuting our people, stop targeting our organization, and stop interfering with the performances our community cherishes and loves.
“Every voice for justice is crucial—whether it comes from the federal, state, or city level. Together, these voices form a chorus that cannot be ignored and will bring this persecution to an end sooner.”
