Zhejiang Woman Given Third Prison Term for Practicing Falun Gong

Oct. 30, 2025 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Zhejiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) A woman in Pinghu City, Zhejiang Province, was recently sentenced to three years and three months for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Wang Xingmei, 66, was arrested in late October 2024. Many of her personal belongings were confiscated during the police raid. Her family didn’t receive any updates about her case after she was admitted to the Xucun Detention Center. They only confirmed her prison sentence recently. But details about her indictment, trial and sentencing aren’t clear.

Ms. Wang took up Falun Gong in early 1997. After the persecution started two years later, she was repeatedly targeted for upholding her faith. She was previously given a labor camp term and two prison terms totaling seven years and three months.

Two-Year Labor Camp Term

Ms. Wang was arrested on April 18, 2006 and detained for a month. A group of 610 Office agents deceived her into stepping out of her apartment building on the early evening of June 16, 2006 and took her straight to the local police station. She was not being to change her pajamas or put on shoes. She was interrogated overnight and not allowed to sleep. The police transferred her to a detention center the next day and gave her a two-year term at the Moganshan Forced Labor Camp a few days later.

The labor camp guards arranged two inmates to monitor Ms. Wang around the clock. She was forced to watch and listen to propaganda materials slandering Falun Gong. She fainted one morning while cleaning and fell from a high place. Even though she suffered a severe injury to her lower back and was unable to stand up, the labor camp still refused to release her. Instead, they sent her to a local hospital and took her back as soon as she recovered.

The police continued to harass Ms. Wang after she was released.

First Prison Sentence: Three Years and Nine Months

Ms. Wang was arrested on the evening of March 24, 2012 for distributing information about Falun Gong. She was held in the Jiaxing City Detention Center and a formal arrest warrant was issued on May 2, 2012. She was sentenced to three years and nine months on January 11, 2013 and was transferred to the Zhejiang Province Women’s Prison on January 31, 2013.

The prison guards also arranged two inmates to monitor her around the clock and forced her to watch videos which defame Falun Gong. She was only allowed to sleep for four hours each day and she was forced to work without pay.

Shortly after Ms. Wang was released on January 25, 2015, her husband divorced her, as he could no longer cope with the pressure from the persecution.

Second Prison Sentence: One Year and Six Months

Ms. Wang was arrested again on May 16, 2018 for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was first given 15 days of administrative detention and then put in criminal detention. She appeared in the Pinghu City Court on September 17, 2018 and was sentenced to one year and six months and fined 2,000 yuan on November 16, 2018. She was released in November 2019.
