Arrested at a Train Station for Having Falun Gong Books in Her Luggage, Hebei Woman Sentenced to Five Years

Nov. 20, 2025 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Fu Hong, 57, from Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, is appealing a five-year prison term.

Ms. Fu who works at the Coal Inspection Center of the Qinhuangdao Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, was arrested at a train station on November 20, 2024, after security officers found Falun Gong books in her luggage.

During Ms. Fu’s hearing at the Funing District Court on August 21, 2025, prosecutor Sun Dayun kept interrupting her defense lawyer and presiding judge Lin Shuangquan didn’t stop Sun.

Lin sentenced Ms. Fu to five years in late October 2025. She filed an appeal with the Qinhuangdao City Intermediate Court and judge Chen Gang was assigned to the case.

Past Persecution

Ms. Fu took up Falun Gong in 1998, after witnessing how her mother, Ms. Xu Huiying, recovered from various ailments after she practiced Falun Gong. After the persecution started, Ms. Xu went to Beijing in late 1999 to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. She was arrested, escorted back to Qinhuangdao and detained for more than ten days. After she returned, she began to experience various physical conditions. Her fear further intensified when a former good friend attempted to take her to a brainwashing center.

Due to the mental distress from the persecution, Ms. Fu’s parents gradually became withdrawn. Her father had a stroke and so did her mother. They passed away after being bedridden for two years.

Ms. Fu was arrested at work in January 2001, by Xu Yingbin from the Qinhuangdao City 610 Office and three police officers. They handcuffed her behind her back and took her to the Qinhuangdao City First Detention Center. She was forced to sit still on a small stool for long hours every day. She was routinely searched, verbally abused, and was forced to be on duty at night. She was also forced to recite the detention center rules.

Wang Xianzeng from the Qinhuangdao City 610 Office and Xu Conglin, Li Zhijian and Li Yingjie from her workplace transferred Ms. Fu to the Kaiping Forced Labor Camp in February 2001 to serve an unknown term. The labor camp guards instigated the inmates to torture Ms. Fu in three shifts. They deprived her of sleep, bombarded her with propaganda that smeared Falun Gong, and beat her frequently.

When he tried to rescue her, Ms. Fu’s father was scammed out of 20,000 yuan and a small printer by Wang from the Qinhuangdao City 610 Office.

Ms. Fu was arrested again in November 2009. Her home was raided. Song Zemin and Chen Yingli from the Funing District 610 Office took her to the Funing County Domestic Security Office at night and forced her to fingerprint a document without telling her what it was. They next held her at the Funing County Detention Center for 12 days.

Ms. Fu was later given an unknown term at the Qinhuangdao City Forced Labor Camp. She refused to renounce Falun Gong and was transferred to the Kaiping Forced Labor Camp. Guard Yan Hongli arranged for an inmate to monitor her around the clock. They also barred her from buying daily necessities and restricted her restroom use. She was forced to stay in her cell and she was not allowed to eat in the cafeteria.

When the Kaiping Forced Labor Camp was downsized, Ms. Fu was transferred to the Shijiazhuang Women’s Forced Labor Camp. Because she refused to do the unpaid labor she was forced to stand or sit for long hours and she was denied restroom use.

Because Ms. Fu remained firm in her faith, a group of guards, including Zhao Yuan, Niu Li, Liu Yamin, and Gao Xinlei, beat her one day. The beating lasted for about one hour and Ms. Fu began to lose consciousness. When the guards took her to the medical room, the doctor was shocked to see her swollen, disfigured face. After a basic treatment, the guards attempted to force Ms. Fu to return to the workshop, but relented when other inmates were startled by her injuries. They took her back to the cell instead.

For the next two weeks, Ms. Fu constantly felt tight in her chest, had trouble breathing, didn’t have much appetite and felt dizzy. Her face was pale and she walked very slowly. She later developed headaches and her hand began trembling uncontrollably; if she walked faster she had difficulty using her leg. Despite her condition, the guards extended her term and she was released around December 2010.
