(Minghui.org) Practitioners in the UK held a candlelight vigil and peaceful protest near the Chinese Embassy in London on December 10, 2025 – International Human Rights Day. Ian Murray, Minister of State jointly in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology wrote a letter to express his support for practitioners’ resistance against the persecution.
UK minister Ian Murray MP sent a letter of support for Falun Gong on International Human Rights Day.
UK minister Ian Murray MP expressed concern for the persecution Falun Gong practitioners face. He said: “The accounts you describe of the treatment of Falun Gong practitioners are deeply disturbing. The right to freedom of belief, conscience and peaceful practice is a fundamental human right, and its systematic denial on such a scale demands sustained international attention.
“I am also mindful of the findings of the independent China Tribunal chaired by Sir Geoffrey Nice KC, which raised grave and credible concerns about forced organ harvesting and the lack of transparency or independent scrutiny in China's organ transplantation system. Those conclusions cannot simply be ignored.
“You are also right to highlight the growing evidence of transnational repression. Any attempts to intimidate, harass or silence individuals in the UK for peacefully expressing their beliefs or concerns about human rights abroad are completely unacceptable. Protecting people here from such interference is a matter of both human rights and national sovereignty.
“As a Government, we have been clear that the UK will continue to raise serious human rights concerns with the Chinese authorities, both publicly and privately, and will work with international partners to press for accountability. I welcome the steps taken by allies and legislatures elsewhere to shine a light on these abuses and to consider targeted measures against those responsible.
“Peaceful vigils such as yours play an important role in bearing witness, maintaining international awareness, and reminding governments of their responsibilities under international law.”
