(Minghui.org) I’m in my 70s and I’ve practiced Falun Dafa for 28 years. I want to tell people that practitioners live according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, strive to be selfless so they can return to their original true selves, and eventually return to their heavenly homes. I’d like to tell you about my cultivation journey.
Treating My Disabled Husband with Kindness
My husband had a bad temper. When he got drunk he threw things around, and cursed people. When I was hospitalized with kidney pain and had bloody urine he ignored me. He even cursed me, saying, “You brought this issue on yourself. You deserve to die.” I was so angry that I almost fainted. We argued nearly every day and I felt that my illnesses were the result of his bad temper. I thought about divorcing him, but I didn’t because my children were still young.
I was fortunate to start practicing Falun Dafa in late 1996. Master eliminated the karma from my body, and I became healthy and full of energy. Through studying the Fa, I understood that the hardships I experienced were from the karmic debts I owed from my past lives, and I was paying them off.
My husband developed multiple illnesses in 2015, and was unable to take care of himself. I took care of him all these years. Three years after he fell ill, I had to go to a different city to accompany my grandson to study. I took my husband with me and I continued taking care of him. It was a huge mental and physical strain. A neighbor said, “You’re so patient and considerate of your husband. He must have been very good to you when he was young, right?” I smiled bitterly.
When his cousin came to visit, my husband called me four times for help, in less than an hour. His cousin told him, “If you can manage on your own, don’t torment her. My wife is unable to care for herself. We hired two caregivers. One looks after her and one cooks for her. This costs over 10,000 yuan a month. Your wife takes care of you, helps with your grandson’s schooling, cooks, does the housework, and more. She’s doing the work of several people. Is she made of steel? It’s not easy for her to take care of you like this. Who else could do that? Be content.”
If I hadn’t practiced Falun Dafa, I would not have the stamina to take care of him for so many years. I did not ask my children to help. Besides doing all the work every day, I found time to study the Fa, do the exercises, and send righteous thoughts. I also ran a material production site at home. I slept only two or three hours a day. I did not complain and I did not resent him. I found joy in hardship.
In late 2022, during the COVID pandemic, my grandson developed a fever, my husband became infected, and my daughter-in-law came back infected after going to her parents’ home for a funeral. I was in my 70s, and I took care of all three patients. I was at my limit. I repeatedly said to Master in my heart, “Master, please strengthen me. I can do it.” With Master’s blessing, I kept going. Master said, ““When it’s difficult to endure, you can endure it. When it’s impossible to do, you can do it.”” (Lecture Nine, Zhuan Falun)
I did not mentally collapse, and I passed this tribulation. I was able to do this all because I am a Falun Dafa practitioner and I’m assimilating to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Falun Dafa changed me, and Master saved our family.
In his later years, my husband recited “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good” in his mind thousands of times a day. In the winter of 2024, he passed away peacefully, nine years after he became ill.
Considering Others and Returning Their Valuables
I went shopping one day last fall, and bought 18 yuan worth of groceries. I gave the vendor a 50 yuan bill. As I put the change in my wallet, I noticed a 100 yuan bill in the change. I asked the vendor how much change she gave me. She said 32 yuan. When I showed her the change she gave me, she just stared at me.
While giving me the correct change, she said, “Auntie, thank you so much! Do you know how much I have to sell to earn 80 yuan? There aren’t many good people like you these days.”
I replied, “It’s because I practice Falun Dafa and live by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.” I accepted the corrected change, and was about to leave, when she grabbed my arm and insisted on giving me some fruit as a token of appreciation. I politely declined, and proceeded to leave on my bicycle. But she grabbed a watermelon and put it in my bicycle basket.
On the evening of Chinese New Year’s Eve, I saw a package at my door while I stepped inside the house. Since I was in a hurry to send forth righteous thoughts, I brought it in and did not look at it closely. After the holidays, while tidying up, my daughter-in-law asked me why I bought the package. I said, “I didn’t. Didn’t you buy it? I don’t shop online.”
My daughter-in-law looked at the label and found that it had been delivered to the wrong floor. It had been delivered more than 20 days before. As a cultivator, I knew I could not keep what was not mine, so I took it to the correct address. The owner exclaimed in surprise, “Oh! I never dreamed I’d see it! The deliveryman has already compensated me.”
I replied, “It’s not easy being a deliveryman. Please notify him.”
When the deliveryman learned that the package had been recovered, he smiled and said to the owner, “I’m so lucky. It has been missing for so many days, and they brought it to you! Are there still good people like this? Most people wouldn’t do this. Please thank her for me.”
Returning the Money for a Phone Top-up
One afternoon, my phone rang while I was busy at the farm. The person on the other end said, “Hello. Was your phone just topped up with 100 yuan? Check it please, it’s my money that went into your account.”
I said, “I’m almost 70. I use an old-fashioned phone and don’t know how to check it. My daughter-in-law tops up my phone. I’ll ask her to check when I get home.”
The person on the other end exclaimed, “Auntie, please be merciful! I am taking my child to a hospital in another city tomorrow. I can’t do without a phone. Auntie, please!”
I told her not to worry. “I’m busy right now and I’m far from home. The post office is quite a distance away, and they’re about to close. We’ll check my phone tonight, and if it’s the case, I’ll top your phone up at the post office tomorrow. I won’t lie to you.”
After I got home, we found out what happened. I topped up her phone with 100 yuan as soon as the post office opened the next morning. On my way home, my phone rang. The young woman thanked me very much, “You’re such a good person! You didn’t lie to me! My husband scolded me last night. He said I was stupid, and that I should just wait and see. He didn’t believe such a good thing would happen. I can’t believe that it did! How can I thank you?”
I said, “It’s fate that we met on the phone. I practice Falun Dafa. Master Li Hongzhi teaches us to be selfless, to consider others first, and be good. I’ve practiced Falun Dafa for over 20 years. If you want to thank someone, you should thank Master Li.”
She asked, “Is Falun Dafa really that good? It’s different from what they say on TV.”
I responded, “Young lady, let me tell you, what you see on TV is all fake news and propaganda.” I then explained about many suspicious points in the Tiananmen Square self-immolation incident, and some other news reports. I also told her about the hidden character stone in Guizhou that read “The CCP will perish.”
Finally, I said, “Master teaches us to be good by following Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. However, the CCP tries to suppress and persecute us. There’s an old saying, ‘Those who attack the Buddha and curse the Tao will surely suffer retribution.’ If man doesn’t punish them, Heaven will. If one day Heaven punishes the CCP, everyone who joined its organizations will be buried with it. Only by staying away from it can one stay safe when disasters arrive. Have you joined the Party, Youth League, or the Young Pioneers? For your safety, let me help you withdraw from them using a nickname.”
She said, “Someone phoned me before, and told me this, but I didn’t believe it. Today I understand completely. I joined the Youth League and Young Pioneers, please help me quit them. Thank you.” I was very happy for her.
I am so fortunate to be a Falun Dafa practitioner during Fa-rectification. In my 28 years of cultivation, with my unwavering faith in Master and Dafa, and under Master’s compassionate protection and guidance, I have steadily walked my cultivation path to this day. I will diligently study the Fa, strive to do the three things well, and to live up to Master’s compassionate salvation.
