(Minghui.org) A 63-year-old woman in Renqiu City, Hebei Province, is serving a one-year term at the Hebei Province Women’s Prison because she practices Falun Gong, Minghui.org learned recently.

The wrongful conviction of Ms. Pan Liping, a retired physician of PetroChina Huabei Oilfield Company, stemmed from her arrest at the Renqiu City Railway Station on January 25, 2024. She was waiting to board a train to Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, to visit her child that day, when several agents took her to a small room to be searched, even though she already passed the regular security screening.

The police confiscated Ms. Pan’s laptop, Zhuan Falun (the main text of Falun Gong), and over 1,000 yuan in paper currency printed with messages about Falun Gong. They also photographed her and found her address on their database.

More than ten officers drove Ms. Pan home and opened the door using the key they took from her suitcase. They confiscated all her Falun Gong books and some informational materials. They demanded to know where she got the books and paper currency. She did not tell them.

That night Ms. Pan was taken to the Shijiazhuang Railway Police Department, where she was interrogated twice. Four days later, the police drove her to a local detention center. The officials there refused to admit her because her blood pressure was 198/160 mmHg (when a normal range is 120/80 or lower). She fainted at one point during the physical exam.

The Shijiazhuang Railway Police Department turned Ms. Pan over to the Bohai Domestic Security Office in Renqiu City. The latter agency released her on bail on the night of January 28, 2024, after forcing her to pay a 10,000-yuan bond.

Ms. Pan faced constant surveillance and harassment after she returned home. The Bohai Domestic Security Office submitted her case to the Renqiu City Procuratorate in January 2025. The procuratorate returned the case at least once, citing insufficient evidence. The police resubmitted and eventually got her indicted.

The Renqiu City Court sentenced Ms. Pan to one year in the spring of 2025. Other details of her prosecution remain to be investigated. She was admitted to the Hebei Province Women’s Prison (located in the capital of Shijiazhuang) at an unknown time.
