An 84-year-old resident of Fukang City, Xinjiang Province, died on April 29, 2024, half a year after his home was raided for his faith in Falun Gong.

Mr. Zhen Zuoyun was arrested numerous times since the persecution began in July 1999. After one such arrest in late November 2016, he was taken to the Fukang City Detention Center. The Fukang City Court sentenced him to two years with three years probation at an unknown time.

The court had the police install surveillance cameras at his door and ordered him to wear electric handcuffs. He was not allowed to leave home without permission. Every month he must report to the local judicial bureau to sign paperwork and face interrogation, even when he was sick. An officer surnamed Zeng broke into his home many times to raid his residence. The confiscated items included a cell phone and Falun Gong books.

The police also summoned him from time to time. Mr. Zeng’s health declined under such tremendous pressure and he was hospitalized. As soon as he was discharged from the hospital in October 2023, the police came to raid his home. His condition worsened and he died on April 29, 2024.
