(Minghui.org) A 71-year-old Nongan County, Jilin Province, resident has been sentenced to four years for her faith in Falun Gong, Minghui.org recently confirmed.

Ms. Huo Runqing was arrested on the morning of April 19, 2024 when she went out to pay her water bill. The police raided her home, confiscating her Falun Gong books, portrait of Falun Gong’s founder, four printers (including two broken ones), ink and a small speaker. Her family received a call from the Rongguang Police Station in Changchun (the capital city of Jilin Province) in the evening, telling them that she had been taken to Changchun for detention. Nongan County is under jurisdiction of Changchun.

Ms. Huo was first held at the Weizigou Lockup and later transferred to a detention center. Her family hasn’t been allowed her to visit her since. Only when they received a call from the Jilin Province Women’s Prison on January 17, 2025 did they learn about her prison sentence. They went to the prison, but were still denied visitation.

Ms. Huo’s family also confirmed that the Chaoyang District Procuratorate and Erdao District Court were involved in her sentencing. Other details of her prosecution remain unclear.

Past Persecution

After the Chinese Communist Party ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, Ms. Huo has been repeatedly targeted for upholding her faith.

She went to Beijing on February 10, 2000 to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. She was arrested on February 18 at the Tiananmen Square by police from Nongan. The 240 yuan cash she had was confiscated. She was taken to the Nongan County Detention Center the next evening. She was detained for two weeks and released after her family paid 500 yuan to the political director Liu Shangkuan.

Ms. Huo was arrested again on April 20, 2005 while visiting a local practitioner. The police interrogated her with torture daily, including kicking her and slapping her in the face. Her body was covered with bruises.

On the morning of April 22, 2005, the police covered Ms. Huo’s head with a winter jacket and took her to another police station about one hour away. They continued to beat her and threatened to beat her to death. After one day of torture, they took her to the Nongan County Detention Center in the evening and later gave her a one-year forced labor camp term.

At the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp, Ms. Huo was forced to work 18 hours a day without pay. The working hours were further extended when she was unable to finish the daily quota. The main products she made were paper food containers, butterfly crafts and Chinese learning flashcards. The pain in her hands and body from the heavy workload often kept her awake at night.
