May 17, 2025 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Shanxi Province, China

(Minghui.org) Mr. Liu Jinsheng, 50, from Anze County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province, was sentenced to three years with four years probation in December 2024, for practicing Falun Gong. His appeal was rejected on February 26, 2025.

Mr. Liu, born in April 1975, and a former employee of the Anze County Power Company, was arrested on July 4, 2023, by Geng Xiaochun and more than ten other officers from the Anze County Domestic Security Division. The police raided his home and confiscated his Falun Gong books, computer, portable drives and four cell phones. He refused to sign the case documents and denied all allegations against him. He was released on bail that evening, but was placed under close surveillance.

Officer Geng called Mr. Liu on October 25, 2023 and deceived him into going to the police department, by telling him they were going to close his case. Because Mr. Liu still refused to cooperate with the police, they gave him a two-week administrative detention the next day. Two weeks later, they took him to a brainwashing center, where more than ten staffers worked on him specifically. He was released on bail a month later.

The police submitted Mr. Liu’s case to the Huozhou City Procuratorate on January 17, 2024. The prosecutor indicted him on April 18, 2024.

In September 2024, the Huozhou City Court held a close-door hearing of Mr. Liu’s case, with only the court staffers and his lawyer present. The judge announced on December 25, 2024 to sentence Mr. Liu to three years with a four-year probation and a 5,000-yuan fine. He appealed with the Linfen City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold his original verdict on February 26, 2025, without holding a hearing.

In April 2025, the Anze County Power Company was forced to fire Mr. Liu. He is now being closely monitored by the local police and the Justice Bureau, and is not allowed to go out of town.

Past Persecution

Mr. Liu began to practice Falun Gong in December 1998. After the Chinese communist regime ordered the persecution in July 1999, he has been repeatedly arrested and detained for upholding his faith.

Mr. Liu went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing in December 2000 to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. He was arrested and held at the Fengtai District Detention Center for seven days. He was severely tortured. The police stomped on his ankle, and he was unable to walk. His face was swollen from the beatings. They also poured cold water on his clothes. After he was taken back to Linfen, he was detained for two more weeks and demoted at work.

Mr. Liu was arrested again in 2008 for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. He was demoted at work again and had his pay reduced.

Mr. Liu’s next arrest was on April 11, 2010 outside of his home, for sending text messages about Falun Gong. He was detained for four days and then placed on house arrest for two months. On June 25, 2010, he was taken to the Xindian Forced Labor Camp to serve a two-year term. He was severely tortured and forced to work without pay. The police continued to monitor him and harassed him on a regular basis after he was released on June 5, 2012.

In 2021, Mr. Liu’s daughter passed the college entrance exam for a military aviation university, but she wasn’t admitted after the school found that Mr. Liu practiced Falun Gong during the school’s political background screening.
