(Minghui.org) Ohori Park in the center of Fukuoka, with its Japanese garden, tea house, art gallery, and beautiful landscape, attracts tourists from all over the world. It is a “not to be missed” destination for tourists on cruise ships arriving from China to Fukuoka.
Tourism has resumed since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, and over 10 cruise ships from Shanghai, Tianjin, and Dalian now dock in Fukuoka every month. There are 2,000 to 5,000 passengers on each ship.
Falun Dafa practitioners, both Chinese and Japanese, volunteer at Ohori Park to clarify the truth and help the tourists quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated youth organizations (the Youth League, and the Young Pioneers) when the cruise ships dock. From dozens to more than 100 each day quit the CCP.
All Year Round, Rain or Shine
Ms. Zhu used to clarify the truth to the Chinese by phone and had never done it face-to-face, but she quickly adapted. At first, she would get angry when she was cursed or people said unpleasant things to her, but she would endure it and look within for her own shortcomings. She later felt sorry for the tourists, and she was happy for them from the bottom of her heart when they choose to quit the CCP after learning the truth. She has now become a main force in telling the facts in Ohori Park.
Ms. Zhu said, “I come here to clarify the truth, rain or shine, whenever there are tourists. I talk to Chinese people for six or seven hours on some days. Although I get a little tired, my heart is filled with gratitude to Master, who gives me this opportunity and environment to fulfill my vow.”
Ms. Li Yan lives in another city so she drives or takes the train to Fukuoka to clarify the truth at Ohori Park on weekends. If there will be tourists for two or three days in a row, she stays in Fukuoka temporarily.

Li Yan described how her mindset changed: “In the beginning, I thought it was a local matter for Fukuoka and had little to do with me, plus, I had been busy making phone calls. Later, they needed my help because they were short of manpower. When I saw so many Chinese tourists approaching me, I gave it a higher priority and I became a member of the truth-clarification team at this scenic spot.”
Ms. Hailian overcame difficulties to go to Ohori Park to clarify the truth.
Ms. Hailian, a mother with a young child, has had to overcome difficulties to go to Ohori Park. She once heard a tourist ask a tour guide, “How much do they [Falun Gong practitioners] get paid every day?” The tour guide answered with a guess, “We get 20,000 JPY (about $140 US) a day, so they probably get about 40,000 JPY (about $300 US).”
After she heard this, Hailian talked to the tour guides when they were resting. She told them, “No one pays us. We volunteer because factual information is blocked in China and these tourists can’t hear unbiased news. Telling them the truth is like pulling someone off the edge of a cliff and saving them.” She also told them what Falun Gong is, the truth about the Tiananmen self-immolation hoax, the CCP’s crime of harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners, and why Falun Gong practitioners encourage people to quit the CCP. Ever since then, the tour guides have greeted practitioners when they meet and have encouraged tourists to learn the truth.
The Power of Kindness
There are also Japanese volunteers who participate all year round, rain or shine. Since they cannot speak Chinese, they stand there quietly holding small plastic signs with Chinese instructions. A tourist can read the signs and point at what she or she wants to do, such as quit the Chinese Communist Party, the Youth League, or the Young Pioneers. The volunteer then shows the person a list of aliases he or she can choose from. That way, Japanese volunteers can sometimes help two or three people to quit in a day.
According to a Japanese practitioner, the park administration did not allow them to hold any signs at first, citing a rule that hand signs were not allowed. The practitioner later spoke with the administrator about the human rights abuses and the persecution in China. She told the administrator that it was imperative to tell the truth to these tourists and she hoped that the administrator would understand and side with kindness. The practitioner was almost in tears as she spoke. The administrator was moved by her kindness and has not interfered with the practitioners’ activities since.
Another volunteer shared a story showing the power of kindness. A man in his 50s shook his head, waved his hands, and got on a tour bus when the volunteer approached him. Later, the man returned to the park to look for his father-in-law, who was in his 80s. The volunteers present at the time helped to look for the old man but couldn’t find him. In the end, the bus left the man behind because it had a schedule to keep.
The volunteer helped to call the police for assistance in finding the older man and even drove the son-in-law to the port to catch the cruise ship. On the way, the volunteer told the man the truth about Falun Gong and helped him to quit the CCP. From observing the words and deeds of the volunteers, the man changed his previous views completely. At the port, he found out that his father-in-law had gotten on the wrong bus and was already on the ship. The man was very grateful for the volunteers’ help and offered to pay them. The volunteers declined his offer and said that it was their duty to help him.

Park employees change the flowers and plants according to the season. In the fall, they cut some branches in a flowerbed and gave them to the volunteers. When the volunteers took them home, they found Udumbara flowers blooming on them.
