A Yingkou City, Liaoning Province resident became withdrawn after finishing a three-year sentence in 2019 for her faith in Falun Gong. Her health gradually declined and she passed away on June 7, 2025. She was 73.
Ms. Bai Yuyue, a tailor, raised her two children by herself. After she took up Falun Gong, she became upbeat and positive. She always tried her best to help others and was well-liked by her friends and neighbors. Because Ms. Bai remained firm in practicing Falun Gong after the Chinese Communist Party ordered the persecution in 1999, she was twice arrested and sentenced to three years. The mental and physical torture in custody caused her irreparable damage and eventually claimed her life.
Ms. Bai was arrested by officers from the Lunan Town Police Station on October 21, 2015, for filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the communist regime who ordered the persecution of Falun Gong. The police raided her home and held her at the Yingkou City Lockup for four days.
Ms. Bai was arrested again at home on the morning of June 28, 2016 during a police sweep. Hundreds of practitioners were arrested in Liaoning that day, per an order from the Liaoning Province 610 Office, an extralegal agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong.
The Zhanqian District Court held a hearing on Ms. Bai’s case on February 15, 2017, without informing her family. The judge attempted to force her to provide information about other practitioners. She refused to comply and was sentenced to three years. She appealed to the Yingkou City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold her original verdict.
Ms. Bai was transferred from the Yingkou City Detention Center to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison in August 2017. She was forced to make clothes for export without pay. The guards and inmates also constantly beat and verbally abused her, as she refused to give up Falun Gong.
Once a cheerful woman, Ms. Bai became withdrawn and stopped contacting others after she was released from prison in June 2019. Her health declined and she died on June 7, 2025.
