They recognized that Falun Dafa transcends cultural and ethnic boundaries, which is especially important in the world today.
Members of Parliament and local officials sent messages to honor World Falun Dafa Day.
Senator Nessa Cosgrove Commends Practitioners
Senator Nessa Cosgrove, Labour Party Spokesperson on Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht; Workers’ Rights pointed out that Article 44 of the Irish Constitution guarantees people the right to practice their own religion and to exercise freedom of conscience. The same freedoms are guaranteed under Article 18 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
“I continue to be horrified by the denial of these basic human rights, and the abuses which accompany their denial, by totalitarian and one-party regimes throughout the World, including by the Communist Party Government in the Peoples Republic of China,” she wrote.
“The bravery of those who continue to act in accordance with their own conscience, in spite of State oppression, is to be acknowledged and applauded. I would like to wish the followers of Falun Dafa/Falun Gong a joyful day on May 13th, and I remain hopeful that your community's example of steadfastness, along with other persecuted political, religious and ethnic minorities in the PRC will lead us into a brighter, more tolerant and freer future for the human family.”
Senator Gerard Craughwell’s Message
Senator Gerard Craughwell wrote, “China had begun to show such great progress as it appeared to modernize in the early part of this century it appeared to most of us that the country was moving towards a modern market economy. However, looks can be deceiving, and clearly under the surface the regime was driven by fear.
“What was there to fear from a peaceful spiritual group such as Falun Gong? Nothing. But even a casual observer could see that the practice of Falun Gong required free thinking and self-discipline and therein lies the problem. The Chinese regime does not want its citizens to engage in teachings that are based on truthfulness, benevolence and forbearance. Why any regime would fear such noble principles is way beyond me or indeed any right thinking person. I congratulate all who observe the principles and live by them.”
Message from Barry Heneghan, T.D.
Barry Heneghan MP wrote, “World Falun Dafa Day is a significant occasion that honours the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, values that resonate across cultures and communities and which are deeply needed in today’s world. These universal principles promote understanding, peace, and personal integrity, and I commend all those who strive to embody them in their daily lives.
“Falun Dafa practitioners in Ireland and around the globe have long contributed to a more harmonious and respectful society through their peaceful practice and positive engagement with their communities. I recognise and appreciate these contributions, and I stand in support of your right to freedom of belief and peaceful expression.”
