(Minghui.org) This year marks the 26th year that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has brutally persecuted Falun Gong. Practitioners from all parts of South Korea gathered at Seoul Plaza on July 20, 2025, and peacefully protested these human rights abuses.
Before the day’s activities began, practitioners dressed in yellow T-shirts and white pants performed Falun Gong exercises. Because it was morning, the exercise demonstration caught the attention of many tourists staying at nearby hotels. They stopped to watch and took photos. Some people followed practitioners and did the exercises.
Practitioners did the exercises at Seoul Plaza on the morning of July 20, 2025.
The MC introduced the purpose of the day’s activities. The president of the South Korean Falun Dafa Association, Mr. Quan Hong, then read a statement.
The president of the South Korea Falun Dafa Association spoke at the rally.
Professor Wu Shilie, Secretary of the South Korea Falun Dafa Association, spoke at the rally.
Mr. Quan said, “Former head Jiang Zemin used a quarter of the nation’s GDP to suppress Falun Gong; the regime directed and enacted the Tiananmen Square self-immolation to deceive the international society.” He also mentioned the Falun Gong Protection Act that has gained a lot of support from both houses in the US Congress. He appealed to pro-CCP public servants in Korea: “Don’t be deceived by the CCP or you will become its accomplices.” Mr. Quan also called on South Koreans to learn the truth about Falun Gong and the true nature of the CCP. This will stop the persecution.
Association Secretary Professor Wu Shilie talked about the milestones achieved over the years in practitioners’ efforts to stop the persecution of Falun Dafa and explained in detail the contents of the Falun Gong Protection Act passed in the US House unanimously on May 5 this year.
The grand march to peacefully protest the ongoing persecution began at 1:20 p.m. The parade was made up of eight sections: The Tian Guo Marching Band, Falun Dafa Is Great, Understanding Falun Gong, Zhuan Falun, Benefits of Practicing Falun Gong, Facts About the Persecution and the Trend of Quitting the CCP, a float on which the organ harvesting was enacted, and waist drum performances.
Falun Gong practitioners held a grand march in Seoul to call attention to 26 years of persecution.
The march passed through Sejong-daerom a one-kilometre-long street that runs through downtown Seoul. It is the widest street in Seoul, and many media offices are located there. It is also close to the famous Gyeongbokgung Palace and Gwanghwamun Square – popular spots for overseas tourists to experience Korean culture and wear traditional Korean costumes. Practitioners also marched by the entrance to Myeongdong and the Lotte department store precinct, where many people from China like to visit. When they heard the Tian Guo Marching Band, many Chinese people stopped to listen and took photos or video recordings with their mobile phones.
Ms. Park Geum-soon, a resident, read the display boards at Seoul Plaza and said, “I am sad to read about the terrible persecution of Falun Gong. I think the CCP’s actions are not human.” She said she’s previously seen information about Falun Gong, “I want to tell practitioners who are still suffering from the suppression, I hope you continue to persist, keep on fighting!”
Ms. Park Geum-soon was sad to read about the brutal persecution of Falun Gong in China.
After Mr. Kim Seok-won from Incheon City read the messages on banners carried by practitioners as they marched in the direction of Gwanghwamun Square, he talked with a practitioner. He said after learning of the persecution: “The CCP is persecuting Falun Gong perhaps because so many people practice it. What shocks me is, they treat the organs of practitioners as money-making tools. If there is no demand for organ transplants, the supply will go down. Organ transplants should use the organs donated voluntarily by brain-dead people, yet they take people’s organs by force and give it to another person. The person who did not want to die lost his or her life. This is really tragic. I heard that Falun Gong practices ‘Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance,’ but the CCP is an evil organization; therefore, it will suppress whatever group that is big, whether it is good or bad. Such persecution must end at once.”
Mr. Kim Seok-won from Incheon City was shocked to learn of the organ harvesting.
Hwang Kyung-hee, who was waiting for the bus at Jogyesa temple, said, “I visited China on several occasions and have firsthand experiences of how religious belief is restricted there. I witnessed the regime suppressing the church. Falun Gong practitioners who gathered to do the exercises are also suppressed. Perhaps the CCP is afraid it will become a force, but this doesn’t make sense at all. Falun Gong is not even a religion. I think Falun Gong is a meditation to improve health.” She encouraged practitioners: “I hope you persist, keep on fighting!”
Her friend Oh Kyung-sook said, “Everyone has something they like to do and should not be banned from doing it. I have a good impression of Falun Gong. I also want to speak out for practitioners. I hope the CCP stops persecuting practitioners.”
Both Hwang Kyung-hee (left) and Oh Kyung-sook (right) hope the CCP will stop persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.
When the parade passed by Myeongdong, the Minghui correspondent met Chloe, a tourist from France. She said she absolutely opposes any form of illegal persecution of religious faith, particularly “taking people’s organs by force.” This is not acceptable. She said the overall atmosphere of the march was peaceful and serene. She thought the Tian Guo Marching Band’s performance was uplifting.
Chloe from France said organ harvesting should not be tolerated.
Ms. Seol Myeongja, a health education teacher in a primary school in Changwon City, has actively participated in activities to call for an end to the persecution every year since she began practicing Falun Gong four years ago. She said, “I feel I have a responsibility to tell everyone the truth about Falun Gong. Therefore, I attend such activities every year. When I see the CCP carry out such brutal crimes, I must expose this. Korea should not continue to stay silent. The government should call for the immediate and unconditional release of Falun Gong practitioners detained in China.”
Ms. Seol Myeongja, a health education teacher who practices Falun Gong, feels she has the responsibility to tell people about the persecution in China.
Mr. Lin Yicai began to practice Falun Gong in 1996. He clearly remembers when the persecution started in 1999 and felt that the suppression had affected Korea as well. He said, “When the persecution first started, the lies from the Chinese media were republished in mainstream media in Korea. This made me very sad. I even wept. I stayed up at night to write reports telling people the facts and went to the media companies to ask them to remove the false reports.”
Mr. Lin Yicai was sad to see lies from the Chinese media republished in mainstream media in Korea when the persecution first began in 1999.
Now, the CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong has transcended national boundaries and reached Korea, the U.S., and many Western countries. Mr. Lin said, “The CCP’s strategy is to bribe people, manipulate public opinion, and incite pro-CCP groups to extend the persecution. This is, in fact, a persecution of the whole world, and it must end at once.
“Practicing Falun Gong improves people’s physical and mental health, turning them into good people; the original intention of politics is to make citizens healthy, safe, and live happily. In the seven years before the Chinese government began to persecute Falun Gong, it promoted the benefits of the practice through countless official data, but it suddenly switched paths and chose to suppress the practice. This is unreasonable and illegal. It also goes against universal values upheld by the whole world. This persecution must end now.”
