Overcoming Attachments and Improving My Cultivation State

(Minghui.org) For awhile, my state of cultivation wasn’t good. Although I wanted to go out into my community to tell people the facts of the persecution of Falun Dafa, I did not do so because of fear. I found an excuse for not doing so: I have to adjust my state of cultivation until it’s good enough before I can go out and talk to people.

Lacking the sense of urgency and motivation to protest the brutal persecution, my attachment to comfort grew stronger. I began to watch video clips on my cellphone. I tried to quit the habit but failed. My state of cultivation worsened – I dozed off during meditation and while sending righteous thoughts. I tried many ways to correct these problems, but nothing seemed to work. This bad state lingered and I didn’t know how to break through my attachments. This bothered me and I became quite stressed.

One day I was invited to join other practitioners at the local marketplace to pass out flyers and talk to people about Falun Dafa. That evening it started raining and the next morning we waited until the rain stopped before we left. Halfway there it started raining again. While I was driving, a thought came up wanting to return home, “No one will be at the market because of the rain.” However, no one in the car mentioned wanting to go back. Then I thought, “We can’t waste the trip. Helping people to know the facts of the persecution is a sacred mission, and things will work out.”

When we arrived at the market, the rain lightened up, and we got out of the car. The practitioners started to talk to people and hand out flyers and I sent righteous thoughts next to them. There were not many people at the market but there were still people willing to listen to us. Whenever we spotted someone on the street, we would go talk to him. One person took a flyer and started to leave to dodge the rain, but a practitioner encouraged him to quit the Chinese Communist Party and its affiliated organizations before departing.

On our way home, I felt especially happy and relaxed. My mind was more awake and clear than before we got to the market.

The next morning, I did the sitting meditation and did not doze off. When I sent righteous thoughts, I stayed clear-headed, and could feel the energy, which was comforting. I finally overcame the bad cultivation state that had haunted me for so long.

I thank Master Li for helping me through this difficult time in my cultivation. I have learned an important lesson from this experience. To be a genuine practitioner, we must do all of the three things Master asks us to – this is how we can improve steadily.
