(Minghui.org) My husband bought an apartment in a new neighborhood far away from our house in 2000. As it was on the first floor, we opened a small supermarket and my husband asked me to manage it. His main objective was to keep me away from harassment and persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Although I was in the supermarket, I knew that as a cultivator I have responsibilities and a mission, so I could not be pinned down by the supermarket.

Master saw that I had the wish to raise awareness of Falun Dafa and the persecution, so he arranged a practitioner to bring me a computer and a printer. The practitioner also taught me and another practitioner how to log onto Minghui.org. This practitioner was staying away from home to avoid persecution at the time, so she temporarily lived with me. Situated within a residential community, the supermarket did not have many customers. Therefore, we had ample time to study the Fa, send forth righteous thoughts, and print truth-clarification materials. We made materials for only one to two practitioners to use. Sometimes, I would go out with the practitioner to distribute the materials.

After Master published the article “Let Go of Human Attachments and Save the World’s People,” I felt the urgency of saving sentient beings even more. I had the idea to clarify the truth to my customers. I knew that the people I meet all have an affinity with me, and it was my responsibility to help them learn the true situation. I told the practitioner about my idea and she fully agreed. However, I still struggled initially, because this was my permanent residence. If I were reported or if news of me clarifying the truth were to spread too far, it would expose my identity. This thinking made me hesitate.

Master said,

“The old forces don’t dare to oppose our clarifying the truth or saving sentient beings. What’s key is to not let them take advantage of the gaps in your state of mind when you do things.” (“Fa Teaching Given at the 2002 Conference in Boston, U.S.A.,” Collected Teachings Given Around the World Volume II)

Master’s teaching awakened me. I calmed down and knew what to do. First, I must do well and do things righteously. I must try my best to let people feel the sincerity, kindness, tolerance, and generosity of a Dafa practitioner. My business philosophy is integrity. All my products are free of flaws and are of good quality. The prices are reasonable, and if the customers are unsatisfied, they can always return the product(s).

As the residential community was still under construction and the apartments were for sale at the same time, the people who came to buy things were usually construction workers. There were also a few scattered residents. The construction workers often bought instant noodles. As it was not convenient for them to heat up their noodles at their worksite, I would let them heat up their noodles at my store and provide them with utensils for free. When customers left something behind, I would hold it for them and return it. There were often times when the customers paid extra and I would voluntarily return the extra money. Once, an electrician from our community’s residential property unit came in to buy cigarettes after receiving his salary. After he left, I happened to look down at the floor and saw a few hundred-yuan bills scattered on the floor. I picked the bills up, ran after him, handed him the money, and reminded him to be more careful.

Our community also has a relatively larger supermarket that sells a more complete selection of items than us. However, the construction workers and residents in our area mostly preferred to come to my supermarket to make their purchases. Even the neighbors close to that supermarket would rather forsake the supermarket nearer to their home to come to our supermarket instead. They said that many of the items sold at that supermarket were of bad quality, including their cigarettes, drinks, and food. The family that ran that supermarket was attached to profits and would often argue with their customers. When customers asked them to help heat up the noodles that they had bought, they would also charge the customers a service fee. Our integrity and generosity thus received recognition from our customers.

Initially, we mainly clarified the truth to the construction workers. They were usually young men in their twenties and thirties, and they were unsophisticated. As we had built a trusting relationship, it became very natural when I explained the truth to them. Almost none of them showed resistance to it. After interacting with us for a long time, the workers would call the other practitioner big sister and call me second sister. Sometimes, when someone bought something and wanted to stay a while longer, we would chat with them about family matters and subsequently tell them some more about Dafa and also some stories about how good is rewarded and how evil meets with retribution.

One young man said to me, “I like to listen to you talk about all this. No one has told me things like this. I reckon that what you said makes sense.” This young man not only quit the CCP and its affiliated organizations, he also called me after returning home and asked me to help his parents and sister quit the CCP too. The construction workers within the community, including their boss, later all basically knew my identity. Their boss often visited the supermarket too, and I also clarified the truth to him. Not only did he accept it, but he even reminded me kindly, “Be careful, don’t just tell anybody about this.”

The other practitioner later had to leave the supermarket due to personal reasons, and the construction work in the community also ended. The workers thus left one after another. After that, my customers were mainly community residents. At that time, the occupancy rate in the buildings was low, so I did not have many customers. But there would be groups of children, around 10 years old, coming to my supermarket every day. The children sometimes did not come in to buy things. Sometimes, they just popped in to walk around. Despite this, I would always greet them enthusiastically and sometimes chat with them, asking them about their lives and studies.

These children then became my supermarket’s regular customers. Sometimes, they would ask me to be the judge when they got into conflicts and I would tell them the story about Han Xin, who suffered humiliation by being made to crawl between a bully’s legs. Sometimes, they would ask me, “Why are you so nice? How do you know so much?” I would tell them, “I cultivate Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance.”

I would tell them about Dafa according to their level of understanding, telling them to try hard to become a truthful, compassionate and tolerant good child and to remember “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” I would also tell them that the CCP advocates lies, evil, and fighting with others, which is the opposite of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance. Moreover, the CCP even brutally persecutes the cultivators of Truthfulness-Compassion- Forbearance. I asked them, “Are Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance good? Or are lies, evil, and fighting with others good?” They would reply that Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance are good. What delighted me was that the children were really able to act according to the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance after that. Sometimes, they even came and told me their stories about how they did not lie to others, helped others, and tolerated others.

Some of the parents who found out about me from their children would not allow their kids to come to my store anymore. I heard this from the children who continued to come in. When I learned about that, I asked myself, “Is what I did not very rational? Will I invite trouble for myself in the future?”

I thought that I did not clarify the truth for my personal gain, nor for any personal motives. I just sincerely wanted the best for the children, hoping that they would not be harmed by the CCP. I hoped that they could have a wonderful future. This was not selfish or self-centered. It was aligned with the Fa, so the evil had no gaps to take advantage of. With this thought, my heart was at peace again and I continued to do what I was supposed to do every day. The children’s parents visited the supermarket sometimes and I treated every customer with compassion as per normal. Sometimes, they would also come and chat with me. Maybe they could feel my kind intentions. The children who had been restricted by their parents were later allowed to visit my store again.

There were also parents who built an affinity with me through their children and began practicing Falun Dafa. Ling was a full-time mother who was cheerful and pretty. She came to the supermarket one day and as she entered, she said, “What did you tell Hanghang (her son at elementary school) yesterday? Hanghang said that he loved to listen to what the supermarket Aunty told him and said that every sentence that you spoke was more useful than the tens and hundreds of sentences that I spoke to him during usual times. Usually, when he was bullied, I needed to put in a lot of effort to comfort him. How did you settle him?”

The day before, Hanghang was bullied by a child who was older than him. He came to the supermarket and cried as he told me his grievances. I comforted him and told him about the principles of no loss no gain and the transformation of karma. I told him that when he suffers from injustice and hardship, he receives virtue, something that is more precious, as virtue can be exchanged for good health, happiness, intelligence, and wealth. Furthermore, through this tempering, he will become more tenacious and broad-minded. Following that, I also told him the story about how Han Xin suffered humiliation by being ordered to crawl between a bully’s legs.

I told Ling, “I have a precious book. I learned these principles from this book.” I thus naturally told her about Dafa. After listening to me, she was surprised and said, “After hearing what you said, I can feel that this Fa is good and righteous and I would also like to take a look at the book.” With that, Ling obtained the Fa and became a Dafa practitioner.

There were also a few girls who were around 10 years old. Through conversing with them, I learned that they were not residents of our community. They stayed in the old houses nearby that were going to be demolished in the future. Maybe these kids had an affinity with me. They would come in groups every day once or twice, and they would stay for a very long time every time, asking about this and that. I would always interact with them patiently, and gradually tell them about Dafa and also some Chinese traditional stories.

As these children were younger than my daughter by two or three years old, and their families’ financial states were not very good, I would wash the clothes that my daughter used to wear that were still in very good condition, iron and package them well, and give them to these girls. They loved them. In order to let their parents understand, I even wrote a note to them, telling them about my identity and about Dafa. I also told them about how I treat others with kindness, and that I am willing to share my kind intentions with everyone that I meet. The next day, the children wore the clothes that I had given them to the supermarket and conveyed their parents’ appreciation.

One day a father of one of the children came to my supermarket and introduced himself to me. We naturally started chatting about his daughter. I told him that the children are pure and simple. I said that kids of this age are in the stage in their lives when parents should nurture them with the right values and give them the ability to differentiate between right and wrong. Guiding the children to establish a correct outlook on life when they are still very young can be very important to their whole life. I explained that China’s ancient education focused on inspiring people’s conscience and rationality. From a very young age, children were asked to memorize ancient works like the Three Character Classic and Rules for Disciples, which gradually helped them to develop good civilized habits and principles of life. Many people knew about benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and trustworthiness, as well as gentleness, courtesy, frugality, and modesty. I said that these values are universally acknowledged and people use these ancient teachings to guide their behavior. Then I contrasted that with today’s education system, which is against tradition and is opposed to benevolence, righteousness, morality, and universal values. Instead, it advocates a philosophy of fighting and competing with others and even blatantly fabricates lies in textbooks, poisoning the students’ minds.

I then talked about the CCP-staged Tiananmen self-immolation incident and quitting the CCP and its affiliated organizations to attain peace and safety. He listened attentively and kept nodding to show his acknowledgment. Before leaving, he expressed his gratitude and kept reminding me, “Pay attention to your safety, you need to learn how to protect yourself.”
