(Minghui.org) A 65-year-old woman in Foshan City, Guangdong Province, was admitted to the Guangdong Province Women’s Prison in June 2024 to serve a 4.5-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, Minghui.org learned recently.
The wrongful conviction of Ms. He Xiaohua, born in August 1960, stemmed from her efforts to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. In September 2022, the Tongan Community in the Chancheng District put up bulletin boards vilifying Falun Gong. When she noticed them, Ms. He mailed letters at the Shengping Post Office on October 21 that year and more at the Tongji Post Office three days later. The letters were addressed to the Tongan Community officials, including director Tan Guanhui, vice directors Feng Xinyi and Pan Xiuying, as well as secretary Guo Minying and committee member Li Na.
Tan reported Ms. He, and she was arrested at home on January 19, 2023, by officers He Zhifeng (no relation), Ding Peng, Chen Chizhen, and Tan Zhijin from the Chancheng District Police Department, as well as Huang Anquan from the Lanshi Police Station.
Ms. He was taken to the Chancheng District Detention Center and issued a formal arrest warrant on February 24, 2023. Prosecutor Huang Li from the Chancheng District Procuratorate indicted her in early May that year.
The Chancheng District Court held two hearings, on September 18 and November 8, before sentencing Ms. He to four and a half years on November 15, 2023. Presiding judge Zhou Xinbin, judges Liu Anmin and Chen Yiting, clerk Zhou Jianling, and prosecutor Huang signed the ruling.
Ms. He was transferred to the Guangdong Province Women’s Prison in June 2024.
This is not the first time that Ms. He, who has an associate’s degree, has been targeted for her faith. She was sentenced to a year and a half with three years probation on April 13, 2002. On August 16, 2021, she talked to a restaurant worker surnamed Yang about Falun Gong. After she left the restaurant, Yang reported her to the police. It is unclear whether she was later arrested.
