(Minghui.org) Huang Wei-che retired recently from an executive position at a renowned chip design company in Taiwan. He worked in the high tech industry for many years and did his work with rationality and accuracy. However, despite his professional accomplishments, he had hit rock bottom due to stress.
But a predestined relationship helped him step out of life’s pitfalls and find the meaning of life.
Pressure at Work Leads to a Stressful Life
Mr Huang joined a large semiconductor company in the Hsinchu Science Park as a manager in 2007. However, there was no team, and all the management work was his responsibility. His workload was four-fold that of a normal manager. Prolonged overwork and immense responsibility gradually led to an imbalance in his physical and mental health. “Back then, the stress was so incredibly intense that I suffered from insomnia. My hands often trembled, and I couldn’t calm down,” he said.
Even though he had always considered himself responsible and hardworking, he repeatedly asked himself late at night, “I’ve worked so hard my whole life and haven’t done anything wrong. Why is my life in such a difficult situation?”
Reading Zhuan Falun Touches Him
Actually, Wei-che had started seeking the meaning of life at an earlier time. With his science and engineering background, he had followed experts and logic to look for the meaning of life. He read books by former National Taiwan University President Lee Si-chen on the science of the spiritual realm, and books such as Dr. Brian Weiss’s Many Lives, Many Masters. He became aware that life is beyond the view of one’s flesh eyes.
“I had a feeling, gradually, that there are other dimensions.” The reading led him to have a peek but did not resolve his deeper questions. In 2008, he was transferred to another company, where he met a colleague who practiced Falun Gong. He had reached a turning point.
The colleague introduced the book Zhuan Falun to him. “I was touched after reading a few pages,” Wei-che recalled. “What the experts had written in their books were more fully and clearly elaborated on in Zhuan Falun. Also, the details were all described.” The profound impact was not an emotional impulse, but rather a feeling of rational understanding and insight.
With his colleague’s help, Wei-che participated in a nine-day Falun Dafa class. He started practicing Falun Dafa and started following Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance in his daily life.
The most direct change manifested in his health and mind. He said his body and mind became stable after practicing, “I have almost never used my health insurance card since I started practicing more than ten years ago.”
He has joked with his colleagues by saying, “I contributed the most to the country because the health insurance premium is deducted from my salary but I seldom use healthcare.” For him, this was a natural state that arose from believing in Master and the Fa and following the teachings in his daily life.
From Complaining to Being Considerate
In the highly competitive tech industry, conflicts of interest between departments were commonplace. Wei-che had also been resentful because of disagreements over the allocation of responsibilities between the upstream and downstream teams. After practicing, he looked within and noted that the reason he felt resentment was not due to the issue, but rather due to jealousy, the competitive mentality, and the attachment to gains and losses. He said, “When I discarded these attachments, I found that everyone was part of the whole body and the tasks were easy to manage.”
The upstream team used to be overly idealistic in their specifications, leading to difficulties in downstream implementation. Wei-che did not try to figure out who was responsible for the issue, and instead just thought, “If I were in their shoes, what kind of help would they need?” He proposed an adjustment plan, helped the other party understand the back-end limitations, and worked with them to find a compromise. During this process, he stopped trying to prove who was right or wrong, and instead focused on getting the job done better.
“When I thought of other people’s tasks, my own issues became easy to solve.” He became considerate and helpful in accomplishing the team’s goals, instead of blaming others. His colleagues and manager felt his sincerity, and it led the team to cooperate smoothly.
The changes in his character also manifested at home. But such changes were not achieved all at once. One day he was angry at his daughter. She reminded him, “Dad, you are practicing and shouldn’t be like this.” He felt like he got a wake-up call, “It seemed that Master was reminding me using her mouth.” This helped him stop being angry, and he looked within to improve himself.
Through Fa study, he gradually let go of his attachment to having others “follow my way to do the work,” and he learned to listen to and understand others. “Simply focusing on efficiency doesn’t guarantee a perfect outcome. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is most important,” he said.
His wife has experienced perhaps the most profound feelings. She participated in a nine-day Falun Dafa class and started studying the Fa with him. Wei-che is grateful and thinks her wanting to practice is due to her seeing the benefits of cultivation.
As a technology professional, Wei-che said that true scientific spirit is not denying things beyond one’s recognition, but rather acknowledging the limitations of human cognition and being willing to study unknowns with an open and humble attitude. He said that cultivation is not about escaping reality, but about practicing it little by little within reality.
Recalling his path, Wei-che does not think that he has cultivated well, but he repeated the following sentence from Zhuan Falun:
“The entire cultivation process for a cultivator is one of constantly giving up human attachments.” (Lecture One, Zhuan Falun)
He believes that practicing Falun Dafa has allowed him to learn the meaning of life.
