(Minghui.org) In the fall of 2014, another practitioner and I rode a motorcycle to a distant area to distribute 600 copies of truth-clarification brochures. Halfway there, we began to smell gasoline, and the smell grew stronger and stronger. My companion said, “The gas tank might be leaking.” So we decided to leave the brochures at another practitioner’s home in the area.
On our way back, my companion then exclaimed, “The smell of gasoline is gone! I can’t smell it at all!” I asked if we should go back and distribute the materials. She apparently had a conflict with her family that afternoon and was not in a good state of mind. So we decided to complete the task a few days later.
I thought to myself, “The farmers will soon be busy with the autumn harvest. We need to distribute the materials before the harvest begins so more people have a chance to read them.” So the next day, after sending forth righteous thoughts at noon, I set out on my bicycle by myself.
A Frightening Ride and a Safe Landing
The journey was long, and much of the road was uphill. It was also extremely hot, so I didn’t reach the practitioner’s home where we left the materials until 4:30 p.m. To make the distribution easier, I divided the materials into different-sized bundles, according to the number of households in each village, and placed the bundles in hidden locations at the village entrances.
After I had distributed all the materials, I returned to the practitioner’s home to pick up the last bundle. It was already 2:30 in the morning. She told me, “It’s very difficult to enter the nearby villages. Every household lets their dogs roam freely. As soon as someone enters, the dogs will chase and try to bite them. It’s impossible to distribute anything that way. You can go ahead and do it, but take another road and enter the village from there, then distribute the materials as you make your way out.”
I followed her directions. The road was uphill, and I soon developed blisters on my feet, so I couldn’t put much weight on them. But as long as I could still pedal, I did not get off the bike and walk.
I had never been to that area before and knew nothing about the road conditions. As I continued pedaling, I suddenly found myself going downhill—and the brakes weren’t working. The bike was going faster and faster, and there was nothing I could do to stop it. The road was littered with branches and leaves on both sides, so I couldn’t see much ahead of me.
The farther downhill I went, the steeper and more uneven the road became. The bike raced down the slope, sometimes even becoming airborne. I gripped the handlebars as tightly as I could. The brake levers had turned a full 180 degrees, but they were useless. All I could think about was “How can I stop? Under what circumstances will I be able to stop? What will happen to my exposed head? What will happen to my body?” I didn’t dare think any further. I left everything to Master and stopped worrying about it.
When I was near the bottom of the mountain, there were no more trees along the road, so I could finally see everything around me. The slope was extremely steep. Suddenly, my bicycle flew high into the air. At that exact moment, I heard Master’s voice, “Turn slightly to the right.” I turned to the right while I was still in the air. It was just like a slow-motion scene in a movie. I watched the bike as it came down, bounce back up, then land on the grass beside the road. It slid forward a short distance and fell over.
I was lying on the road, but I quickly sat up and checked myself from head to toe. The only injury was a small scrape on my left knee. I felt absolutely nothing anywhere else. It was as if nothing had happened at all. There wasn’t even any pain in my leg. I was overwhelmed with emotion and said in my heart, “Thank you, Master! Thank you, Master!”
When I looked more carefully, I realized there were two roads in the area. I had fallen on the road connecting the western end of the first street to the second street. At the western end of the second street was a large truck parked with its rear facing west. If Master had not told me to turn right, I would have crashed into the back of that truck. What would have happened to me was easy to imagine.
I was deeply grateful to Master for saving my life. There were no words to express my gratitude. Tears flowed down my face, but I didn’t have much time to think about it. I checked the bike and found that it was completely fine. I picked up the last bundle of materials and went to the second street to distribute them. I then went back to the first street. I had only two households left when someone opened their gate and stepped onto the roadside.
As I made my way home, I thought about how nothing happens without a reason. If the bike brakes had not failed, it would have taken me much longer to reach the village. By then, residents on both streets might have already been heading outside. People in rural areas tend to get up early so they can get more work done. If that had happened, I might not have been able to distribute so many materials.
Staying Safe in a Remote Mountain Area
I once rode an electric bike to a remote mountain area to distribute materials. Because the journey was so long, I left the bike at a practitioner’s home to charge, and continued on the their bike to distribute the materials.
I crossed several mountains and passed a cemetery on one of them. It had just become dark, but I continued riding my bike down the slope and soon reached the bottom. By the time I finished distributing the materials and came back up the same mountain, it was almost midnight.
Going downhill had been easy, but going uphill was another matter. I pushed the bike step by step, slowly making my way upward. After a long climb, I finally reached the top, near the cemetery. At that moment, I remembered someone I had known who had recently died and been buried in that cemetery, and became frightened. Just then, I heard Master’s voice beside me, “Don’t be afraid. Master is here.” My fear vanished instantly.
After I passed the cemetery, a strong headwind began to blow. As I continued north along the mountain ridge, I saw a forest fire not far away. The mountainside glowed red, engulfed in flames. I could hear fire engines rushing toward the fire from different directions. I suddenly developed severe stomach pain. I could neither ride my bike nor walk. I thought, “I can’t continue along this mountain ridge.” So I turned around and took another road down the mountain. Once I was no longer facing the strong headwind, my stomach stopped hurting.
I realized that the stomach pain on the mountain ridge had been Master’s way of stopping me from continuing north along the ridge. There was a fire in that direction, and it would have been dangerous for me to be alone there in the middle of the night. Master was guiding me to take the road down to the foot of the mountain instead.
On my way home, I looked up at the starry firmament. Master was high above, constantly giving me hints and protecting me. I felt deeply grateful. Thank you, Master! Thank you, Master!
Master Arranged for Me to Get a New Bike
On another long trip to a remote mountain area to distribute materials, my electric bike had very little power left by the time I reached my destination. I had no choice but to push it to a nearby practitioner’s home for charging. But I didn’t wait for the battery to fully charge. As soon as it became dark, I was eager to go out and distribute the materials.
On my way back after distributing the materials, I was riding along a dark stretch of road when the bike hit a speed bump and was thrown into the air. I came crashing down hard onto the road.
In that instant, I had three distinct sensations. First, I felt my left cheek scrape against the ground. Second, my knees slammed into the pavement, with my left leg taking the brunt of the impact. Third, I felt as if debris was flying everywhere. I sat on the ground and checked my face. There was no blood, no broken skin, and no pain. I then checked my legs and arms. Nothing was wrong.
I wondered what had been flying through the air. I ran my hands over the ground and realized that everything in the bike’s storage compartment had been thrown out. Even the charger and the power strip had broken off.
I went over and lifted the bike up. Its outer casing was shattered, with wires hanging out everywhere. It wouldn’t start, so I had no choice but to push the bike home. My left leg hurt, so I walked slowly. But the farther I walked, the less it hurt. Before I had gone very far, it felt normal again. There was no pain at all!
When daylight came, I looked at my clothes. They weren’t dirty or torn. Even the knees of my pants looked as clean as before. It was truly miraculous! I knew that someone had previously had a serious motorcycle accident at that very spot and suffered broken ribs. As I pushed my damaged bike along the road, I kept saying in my heart, “Thank you, Master! Thank you, Master!”
I reached a bicycle repair shop at a little after 8:00 that morning. As it just so happened, the shop had a used electric bike for sale that was in very good condition.
The shop owner looked at me and said, “This bike is just right for you.” So I traded in my old one and paid him another 400 yuan.
I happily rode my new bike home, thinking that Master must have arranged all this. I was able to get exactly what I needed and spent very little money.
There were many times over the years that I pondered about how Master guided and protected me whenever I encountered difficulties or danger. For so long, I’ve never been able to find the right words to express my gratitude to him. All I can do is let tears of gratitude flow and say in my heart, “Thank you, Master! Thank you, Master!”
I need to make good use of the time that Master has extended for us through his tremendous suffering and sacrifice. I will treasure every moment, cultivate myself well, and help save more sentient beings. I must not let Master down.
