(Minghui.org) A 79-year-old woman is experiencing a relapse of a severe leg ailment, while detained for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Lou A’mei, of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, was born with an incurable, chronic leg ailment that caused her to walk with a limp. Later, she developed necrosis of the femoral head, leaving her bedridden and unable to take care of herself. She lived in pain and with low self-esteem. After she took up Falun Gong, she regained mobility and got her life back.
Ms. Lou was arrested on July 17, 2026, and has since been held at the Shenyang City First Detention Center. A prosecutor from the Dadong District Procuratorate deposed her at the detention center on July 28, 2026. They cursed at her when she demanded to know their names. She refused to answer their questions. They handed her a notice stating she had been issued a formal arrest warrant.
Due to the poor living conditions and mental distress, Ms. Lou struggled to sleep at night. Her old leg condition also relapsed, and she was in excruciating pain. She requested to talk to the prosecutor-in-residence at the detention center, but was denied by the guards. It’s unclear whether the detention center provided any medical treatment to her.
