(Minghui.org) I would like to share how my husband survived a life-threatening accident and how I improved myself through cultivation. Our experiences demonstrate that, even when facing great tribulations, as long as we keep cultivating ourselves according to the Fa, the extraordinary power of Dafa will become evident.
My Husband’s Life Was in Grave Danger After a Serious Accident
Both my husband and I are farmers in our 50s, and we have a married daughter who lives in another town.
When Dafa was first spread to our village, my husband and the other villagers were overjoyed. He diligently read Dafa books, quit smoking and drinking, and gave up playing cards. He also changed his bad temper, and stopped swearing and fighting with others.
After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began its persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, the township government and police mobilized militia members to illegally raid practitioners’ homes, confiscate personal belongings, and conduct arbitrary arrests. Some practitioners working in the fields were also unlawfully detained.
My husband became fearful and stopped practicing cultivation, yet has always supported my cultivation. Nevertheless, in the end the old forces still targeted him.
One afternoon in February 2025, while crossing the road, he was struck by a speeding motorcycle and thrown to the ground. He lost consciousness and suffered severe head bleeding. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and admitted to the ICU.
The diagnosis revealed a severe closed traumatic brain injury, multiple rib fractures on both sides, a fractured collarbone, and various other injuries.
Our entire family opposed a craniotomy. Instead, doctors performed a tracheostomy to help him breathe and clear his airway of secretions.
My husband was transferred to a general ward about ten days later. He remained drowsy throughout the days, and received liquid nutrition via a feeding tube in his stomach.
Although he occasionally opened his eyes briefly and showed some sensation in his hands and feet, he showed no noticeable improvement in any other respect.
The hospital planned to transfer him from the Department of Neurosurgery to the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, where daily expenses were more than 3,000 yuan per day for rehabilitation treatment, over 300 yuan per day for nursing care, plus 100 yuan per day for caregiver fees.
Unable to afford the high costs, we agreed to transfer my husband to the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of a smaller Maternal and Child Health Hospital. Although they did not provide any rehabilitation medical treatment, the daily cost of medicine was still quite high—over 1,000 yuan a day—not including additional costs of nursing care and caregiver fees.
A month passed, and my husband remained the same. He was drowsy all day, received liquid nutrition through a tube inserted into his stomach, and had secretions cleared from his airway through a tracheostomy tube. He was immobile, and showed no signs of rehabilitation improvement.
By then, we had already spent nearly 200,000 yuan—almost all our savings from years of growing and selling vegetables. My husband couldn’t get any compensation from the accident because he didn’t use the zebra crossing when he crossed the road.
We began to borrow money, and could no longer afford to keep my husband in the hospital. Seeing no improvement in my husband’s condition, we asked to have him discharged and to take him home.
The doctor in charge refused our request, saying, “His life would be in danger if he’s discharged in his condition. Besides, you have no idea how to take care of him. If he is allowed to go home, he won’t last ten days.”
What he meant was that although my husband had been transferred to a general ward, he was still in a condition where he could die at any moment.
My daughter said to me, “Mom, let’s take dad home. You can help him, and give him a chance.”
I thought: I’m Dafa practitioner, but my family members, relatives, and friends are all ordinary people. If I take my husband home, they would not support me or understand why I have done so, and they might even develop misunderstandings about Dafa. However, now that my daughter has asked me to take her dad home, it might be a good thing, and give my husband another chance. So, I agreed to her suggestion.
My Husband Came Back From the Brink of Death
Despite strong objections from doctors, we brought my husband home. He had become very thin, and was still unconscious, relying on tubes for breathing and feeding.
Three weeks later, when I went to the hospital to get a prescription for anti-seizure medication, the doctor asked, “Where is the patient now? Has he improved at all?”
“He is very well now,” I told the doctor, who was very surprised to hear it.
“Did you say he’s well now? That’s a miracle! Who took out the tube inserted to his stomach?”
“He did it himself,” I replied.
He then asked me, “Where did he have his tracheostomy removed?”
“I did it,” I told the doctor.
“You did it? This is truly a miracle! How is he now?” The doctor said excitedly, asking me again.
“He can now eat by himself and use the toilet without any help,” I said.
“A miracle!” the doctor exclaimed with excitement. Other nearby nurses who were familiar with my husband’s case echoed, “Yes, absolutely a miracle!”
The Divine Power of Dafa
My husband, whom the doctors expected to die within ten days after we took him back home, miraculously recovered thanks to the divine power of Dafa and its wonderfulness that manifested—after I let go of my selfish attachments through cultivation based on the Fa.
Cultivating Myself When Facing Tribulations
I was initially completely at shocked and overwhelmed with anxiety and worry when I learned of my husband’s serious accident. Then I remembered what Master said in Zhuan Falun:
“When your friends or family suffer, are you moved? How do you weigh these things? Being a practitioner is just so difficult!” (Lecture Eight, Zhuan Falun)
I calmed myself and thought: My husband should recover if we follow the treatment plan arranged by the hospital. Excessive worry would only arise from sentimental attachment. Right now, time is extremely precious for saving people. If the old forces use my husband’s accident to interfere with my time and effort in assisting Master in saving sentient beings, I will definitely deny it and refuse to accept it.
My daughter took leave from work and came to help out. She was the one who spent the most time taking care of her dad in the hospital. So, after my husband was transferred to a general ward, I had some time every day to clarify the truth to people and help them quit the CCP organizations before I went to the hospital to see my husband. Sometimes I also stayed home to feed the sheep, chickens, or finish the farm work left undone by my husband.
Each time I went to see my husband with my second sister-in-law (also a Dafa practitioner), we would recite Fa teachings for him and send forth righteous thoughts to clear out the evil interference in other dimensions that tried to use the tribulation in my family to prevent me from saving sentient beings.
Cultivating Compassionate Kindness
My daughter returned to work after taking care of her dad at home for a week, so I took over all that needed to be done in caring for my husband, including making liquid nutrition food, feeding him through the tube in his stomach, clearing secretions from his airway, changing urine bags, turning him on his side to avoid bedsores, washing his body, and so on.
My husband frequently pulled off the urine bags, making his bed wet. Each time I replaced a urine bag, he would pull it off again. Sometimes, I had to change his bed sheets four times a day.
Whenever I tried to move him around to change his sheets, I usually became out of breath from the effort. Sometimes he also defecated in bed and grabbed his own feces, smearing it all over his body and hands, even his face. He was filthy and smelled awful, and cleaning him up was both exhausting and frustrating.
We sought help from a home care provider, but as soon as she realized the extent of help my husband required, she immediately left.
My daughter didn’t seem to have much trouble while she was taking care of her dad, but I was in a totally different situation. It felt like everything was conspiring to torment me, and I found it very hard to take.
Exhausted all day long, I suffered from aches and pains in my lower back and all over my body. I could hardly stand. Furthermore, I had to feed the remaining livestock we still had in the household.
I felt exhausted, frustrated, worried, angry, and resentful, with hatred in my heart. Sometimes, I really wanted to give my husband a good beating. Just when my demonic nature flared up, I realized that something was wrong with my state of mind, and I said to myself, “This is not right for a Dafa cultivator.”
Master said in Teaching the Fa and Answering Questions in Guangzhou:
“Everything has its karmic, causal relationships and doesn’t exist by accident. When something is not arranged for you, you won’t come across it. What do those things have to do with your cultivation? Nothing, so we try not to arrange them for you.” (Teaching the Fa and Answering Questions in Guangzhou, Explaining the Teachings of Zhuan Falun)
Master’s teaching reminded me that I’m a Dafa practitioner. I asked myself: What is the causal relationship between me and the troubles I’m facing? How are they related to my cultivation? What are the attachments I need to let go of?”
I began looking within and reflecting upon myself, and realized that I harbored deep resentment. Whenever things didn’t go my way, I would complain and feel resentful, and such resentment would flare up my demonic nature, to the point that I even developed the evil thought of hitting my husband.
I kept reminding myself, “I’m a Dafa practitioner. I must not behave this way.” I thought: When I clarified the truth to people so save them from the danger of being eliminated, I did so with kindness and compassion. Shouldn’t I show the same kindness and compassion to my husband when taking care of him?
As a Dafa practitioner, I must measure my conduct by the Fa principles, and cultivate myself on the basis of the Fa when faced with difficulties.
Under the guidance of the Fa, I began to feel calm and at peace, and everything suddenly became clear to me. Things I valued and appreciated about my husband also came flooding back to me.
Although my husband gave up Dafa cultivation due to fear, he has been supportive of me in my cultivation in Dafa all these years.
Because I traveled to Beijing twice to appeal for justice for Falun Gong, I was unlawfully detained several times and sent to a forced labor camp three times. During each detention, the authorities forced every Falun Gong practitioner to pay 20 yuan per day as living expenses. My husband paid this extortion fee out of his meager earnings from selling the vegetables he grew.
One day in April 2000, while my second sister-in-law’s family attended a funeral, I looked after their house. At around 10.00 p.m., three local police officers came and knocked on the door.
The officers, who had been drinking heavily at a village leader’s house earlier, claimed that my second sister-in-law had gone to Beijing to petition the authorities. They demanded that I produce her, and threatened to arrest me if I failed to do so.
They then violently kicked the door open and broke into the house to arrest me. My husband rushed over after hearing the news. He said to the police, “It’s not appropriate for three male police officers to take away a female at this time of the night. Leave it till tomorrow.”
One officer stepped forward, pressed his gun against my husband’s chest, and threatened, “You’re obstructing official business. I’ll shoot you dead!” They then forcibly dragged me to the police station, where I was unlawfully detained for 15 days.
After my release, I once again traveled to Beijing to petition the authorities and seek justice. I was intercepted however, forcibly taken back, and unlawfully detained in a detention center for several months.
As the Chinese New Year approached, the police, village cadres, as well as officials from the township government came to my house. They confiscated our TV set, electric fans, a blender, as well as the only piece of cured pork and a tin of fat my family had saved for the Chinese New Year.
My husband pleaded with them to leave us the cured pork and the tin of fat, explaining that these were the only things we had kept for the Chinese New Year. Ignoring his pleas, they left with everything they had taken. As a result, my husband and our young daughter spent a sad Chinese New Year’s Day filled with fear and anxiety.
I was later unlawfully sentenced to two years in a forced labor camp, where I was subjected to all kinds of torture for refusing to give up my faith in Dafa. I held strong righteous thoughts and refused to be “transformed” in the dark den.
When my husband and the other villagers heard about this, they were deeply moved by my courage and unwavering resolve.
When I was released two years later, my husband celebrated my return by setting off firecrackers and arranging several tables of food and drink to host the villagers.
Later, I took on various odd jobs in the city, including working as a cleaner in a shopping mall, to pay for my daughter’s school fees. The police repeatedly harassed both my employer and me, causing me to lose my job several times. This difficult situation added even greater financial pressure on my husband.
At that time, the transportation in my hometown wasn’t very good. So I rented a place in a nearby city, which allowed me more time to assist Master in saving sentient beings. I did all kinds of available jobs, such as cooking, nannying, caring for older people, and cleaning.
I went to various townships on market days to clarify the truth to people to save them, sparing no expense on travel. Sometimes, I had to change buses three times to get to a place, which cost me dozens of yuan.
I lived a very simple life, and the rented house had very little furniture. All my household items had been salvaged from discarded belongings. When I was hungry, I couldn’t even bring myself to spend money on a bowl if noodles. Still, I had hardly any money to send home.
During the persecution by the evil CCP, family members of Dafa practitioners also endured tremendous tribulations, but how many people truly understand the suffering they bear deep in their hearts?
I have no reason to be unkind to my husband. All these years when I was doing odd jobs out of town, he showed me support and understanding. It wasn’t easy for him, and I should be grateful.
Master’s Fa teachings guided me to take challenges positively with righteous thoughts. When kindness and compassion arose in my heart, I no longer felt any resentment or hatred toward the difficult challenges I was facing. When my xinxing was improving, my spiritual realm in cultivation also elevated.
Negating Persecution by the Old Forces
The sudden tribulations, the sharp increase in financial burdens, and the heavy physical and emotional strain left me utterly exhausted for a while. I could not find time or energy to study the Fa, and could only read a few pages of Zhuan Falun a day, let alone going out to save people.
I realized that my state of mind wasn’t right, and remembered Master’s Fa teachings:
“The old forces have arranged for all Dafa disciples a set of their things, so if a Dafa disciple doesn’t follow Master’s requirements, he must be following the old forces’ arrangements.” (Be Clearheaded in The Essentials of Diligent Progress III)
“Of course, we don’t acknowledge any of the things that the old forces arranged—I as your master don’t acknowledge them, and Dafa disciples of course don’t acknowledge them either.” (Fa Teaching Given at the 2004 Chicago Fa Conference, Collected Teachings Given Around the WorldVolume IV)
I thought: My husband wasn’t clearheaded when he was lying in bed all the time, and he didn’t cause those troubles for me on purpose. He was in fact very pitiable. It was the old forces behind him that created all those troubles to make the tribulations even worse. The old forces were persecuting not only my husband, but also me, draining my time, energy, and financial resources in attempts to prevent me from going out to save people.
I absolutely refuse to acknowledge their arrangements, and I negate them all. I’m under my Master’s care. The old forces have no right to interfere with me.
Guided by Master’s teachings, I began to treat my husband with kindness and compassion. At the same time, I sent forth righteous thoughts more often to clear out the evil spirits and rotten demons behind my husband.
When I rectified myself and began to do the right things based on my new enlightenment on the Fa principles, things took a wonderful and dramatic change in my family.
Getting Rid of the Tubes Inserted to His Stomach and Airway
One morning, I found that my husband had pulled out the tube inserted into his stomach. I didn’t know what to do with the long, darkish tube, so I called my daughter. She was very worried, because to get a new one, we would have to take my husband to the far-away hospital, which was pretty difficult, as one section of the road from our village was still a rugged mountain trail, unsafe for cars or buses.
Both fellow practitioners and I realized that it must be a hint from Master that my husband no longer needed the tube.
I decided not to bother with replacing the tube, and began to feed my husband nutritional porridge with a spoon. I fed him very carefully so that he wouldn’t choke. While I was feeding him, I also recited “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.”
As I was feeding him, he fell asleep. I woke him up gently and continued to feed him. In about half an hour, he had eaten almost half a bowl of the porridge without any problem. He has since been able to eat normally.
A few days later, a few practitioners and I studied the Fa with my husband. We read the Fa, and he just listened. Suddenly, he coughed out the inner cannula of his tracheostomy tube, leaving part of the tube protruding from the opening.
We came to the understanding that this was a hint from Master that it was time to take out the tube.
So I removed both the inner and outer cannulas, disinfected the area around the tracheostomy opening, and sealed it with a Yunna Baiyao adhesive bandage. A few days later, the opening healed naturally.
Before then, if I heard a rattling, gurgling sound coming from my husband's tracheostomy tube, indicating that mucus had built up in his airway, I would immediately suction out secretions for him. Now that the tracheostomy tube had been removed, he stopped coughing, and everything was back to normal.
When the doctor asked me, “But how did you dare to remove the tube yourself?”
I replied, “I didn’t think much of it, and I just did it.” The truth is I knew in my heart that Master was right beside us to protect us. I also asked my husband to quietly recite “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good” with me, until I took out the tubes successfully.
Later, I encouraged my husband to get up from bed, and I helped him sit up carefully to listen to Master’s Fa teachings. Very soon, my husband, expected not to survive more than ten days by doctors, was able to get up and eat by himself, and he was able to work in the fields just over twenty days after he was brought back home from the hospital.
I was also relieved of the unbearable burden I had been shouldering, and had the time and energy again to do the three things well. Thank you, Master!
More wonderful still, my husband is now studying the Fa with me, and even though he is still new, with a gap to catch up, he has re-established his predestined connection with Dafa.
My husband now often listens to and watches audio and video materials that clarify the truth about Dafa. He also spends more time studying the Fa.
He now has a normal body weight, smooth skin, and a healthy, rosy complexion. Although he doesn’t talk much, he always greets everyone with a warm smile.
Now, I go to market places every day to clarify the truth to people and encourage them to quit the CCP organizations. My husband cooks for himself with no problem.
My husband has stopped taking the epilepsy medication he was supposed to take for life. It has now been two months, and he hasn’t had a single epileptic seizure.
The miracle of my husband’s survival from a near-fatal accident not only demonstrated the divine power of Dafa, but also revealed the wonders and beauty of Dafa as a result of Dafa disciples’ improvement in cultivation.
The path Dafa has shown us is infinitely bright. As long as we keep cultivating ourselves based on the Fa, we will be able to pull through all tribulations and tests, and be able to achieve consummation in the end.
No language in the human world is sufficient to express my immense gratitude to Master. I’m determined to continue doing the three things well to fulfill my prehistoric vow and be worthy of Master’s compassionate salvation.
Thank you, Master!
