(Minghui.org) Ms. Yin Yumei, 74, in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, experienced a rapid decline in her health and she was unable to walk just one month after she was detained for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Yin was stopped by the police when she left another practitioner’s home on September 22, 2026. They snatched her key and ransacked her home. Her Falun Gong books, photo of the founder of Falun Gong, and tens of thousands of yuan in cash were confiscated.
At least 10 other practitioners were also arrested that day, including Ms. Chen (whom Ms. Yin was visiting), Ms. Shi Guijie, Ms. Gu Xiqin, Ms. Fu Hongmin, Ms. Cang Fengying, Ms. Yi Zhengfang, Ms. Chi Yueling, Ms. Zhou Yingqi, Mr. Su Zhenhe, and Mr. Wang (first name unknown), in his 70s. Ms. Yi and Ms. Zhou were released later that evening due to their dangerously high blood pressure. Most of the other practitioners were also released days later.
According to an insider, the police monitored the practitioners for a long time before they arrested them, and they had gathered very detailed personal information about each practitioner.
Ms. Yin is held at the Harbin City Second Detention Center. She is currently on criminal detention and has been issued a formal arrest warrant. The police have submitted her case to the Daoli District Procuratorate.
Due to the abuse at the detention center, Ms. Yin often fell while walking and she now needs a wheelchair to get around. Her family is very worried about her.
Since the onset of the persecution of Falun Gong, Harbin has been one of the regions where practitioners were most severely persecuted. Just months before Ms. Yin’s arrest, another practitioner, Ms. Liu Fujin, 63, who was also arrested during a police sweep, was sent to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison to serve a seven-year term.
