(Minghui.org)
Greetings, Master!Greetings, fellow practitioners!
I learned about the Minghui website in 2000. I didn’t want anything to do with computers at the time, thinking they were alien technology. However, I was deeply moved after reading some experience-sharing articles on Minghui.org. In one article, a practitioner said, “If Dafa needs me, I can give up my life to defend Dafa’s dignity.” I wanted to become as righteous as they were.
As Fa-rectification progressed, practitioners wanted me to help produce truth-clarification materials, starting with some cards. When I saw how beautiful the cards were, I was sure that people would like them, so I gladly agreed to help.
There were only a few material production sites that I knew of at the time. We had to cycle over 50 kilometers each way to get the materials. In the heat of the summer, I dripped with sweat and didn’t even have time to drink water. Sometimes I’d get a heat rash on my upper thighs. I kept reciting Master’s teaching from “What’s to Fear” in Hong Yin II,
“... Gods walk the earth, validating the Fa”
As I recited these lines, I gradually stopped feeling hot, and my legs no longer felt uncomfortable. Master’s words strengthened me, and I never felt particularly thirsty, no matter how hot it was or how much I sweated.
When Master published Touring North America to Teach the Fa, we immediately delivered copies to practitioners after we got them. One practitioner lived in a rural area a long way from the main road. When we arrived at his home and gave him a copy of Master’s new lecture, he was moved to tears. He said that he’d been unable to get in touch with practitioners and felt completely isolated. Now that he could read Master’s Fa teaching and articles from Minghui.org, he felt he’d found his home again.
By the time we left, it was raining and almost dark. When we reached the road outside the village, our tires were so full of mud that we couldn’t ride any further. We scraped off the mud, but the tires became clogged as soon as we tried to continue. A passerby told us, “This is clay. If it rains, you can’t ride your bikes; you’ll have to carry them.”
My heart sank when I heard this. We were two relatively weak women, on a muddy country road, in the rain, with darkness approaching, and we had to carry our bikes? We had no choice, but we knew that Master, and the gods and Buddhas throughout the heavens, were protecting us. We were Dafa disciples, and we could certainly do it. So we carried our bikes and recited the Fa. The main road was about three kilometers (1.9 miles) away, and it felt like we were walking forever. At one point I couldn’t see where I was walking and fell into a muddy ditch. But we kept going, reciting the Fa, until we reached the main road. In spite of the difficulties, we felt happy that we’d been able to help that practitioner finally read Master’s lecture.
We often encountered difficulties, but nothing stopped us from doing the three things that practitioners should do. Whenever Minghui published one of Master’s new lectures or articles, we delivered it to other practitioners as soon as possible.
The main practitioner in our area who had technical skills went abroad. I found another practitioner to install the software to bypass the internet firewall, and I soon learned how to access the internet. I always felt a bit afraid, but if I sent forth righteous thoughts first and recited Master’s teachings, my fear would disappear. I knew I couldn’t wait around or rely on others. I had to break through my own barriers and learn more computer skills to assist Master in Fa-rectification.
It was quite easy to learn how to print, typeset, and create graphics. Buying a computer wasn’t difficult either, but I didn’t know how to install the encrypted operating system, so even after I bought a computer, I couldn’t use it. I had to find a technical practitioner to install the system, and not many practitioners knew how to do this. I was determined to learn how to install the operating system myself, so I could save more sentient beings.
After I had this thought, Master arranged things for me. I found a practitioner who could teach me, but he lived more than 100 kilometers (62 miles) away. The first time I went to see him, the fog was so thick I couldn’t see more than 10 meters (32 feet) in front of me. After I got off the bus, the practitioner picked me up on his motorbike because we had to travel another 15 kilometers (9.3 miles). Looking at the dense fog around us, I wondered how we could ride in such conditions. I began reciting “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” Just then, a large truck passed by with its fog lights on. We followed it and safely made our way to the practitioner’s home.
I learned how to install the system, writing down every step. When I returned home, I followed my notes carefully, but the installation didn’t work, which was frustrating. Whenever I came across something that was slightly different from my notes, I had no idea what to do. There was nothing to do but to go back to the practitioner for help. When I got off the bus this time, a different practitioner came to pick me up. This time, instead of fog, there was an extremely strong wind, and I felt anxious sitting on the motorbike. The wind blew sideways, and it felt as if the motorbike could be blown off the road into the fields at any moment. I breathed a sigh of relief when we finally arrived at the practitioner’s home.
Learning technical skills wasn’t easy. There was so much interference, and the old forces were intent on obstructing us. It must be because if we all knew how to use computers, we would disintegrate internet blockades. I am grateful for Master’s protection and for the selfless help of this practitioner. I had to visit him several times, and he was always very patient.
After I returned home, other practitioners asked me to install systems for them. Quite a few wanted to learn how to do it, but I’d only just learned the basics myself. Whenever someone needed a system installed or their computer had broken down, I felt intimidated. When I came across something I didn’t understand, I had to ask a technical practitioner for help. Eventually, after installing systems on many computers, I was able to master the process.
Different computers used different keys to get into the startup menu. Sometimes, even after I inserted a system disc or USB drive, the computer wouldn’t recognize it. I would then try all the keys, one at a time, until the computer recognized the disc or USB and installed the system. Whenever I had a problem, I asked Master to give me wisdom and, many times, the solution would suddenly come to me. I gradually came to understand some of the principles behind system installation. I could install systems on most computers, and the process became easier.
As Fa-rectification progressed, I often traveled to other areas to learn new technical skills and buy supplies. For safety reasons, I didn’t contact practitioners in these areas by phone. Before leaving, I knelt before Master’s photo, offered incense, and told Master where I needed to go. I asked Master to strengthen me and arrange for the practitioners to be at home waiting for me.
Once, I’d arranged a car and planned to leave at 5 a.m. When I got up just after 4 a.m., it was snowing and bitterly cold. I suddenly thought: “Everyone else is sound asleep; do I really need to go out in the wind and snow to buy supplies, or could I stay in bed instead?” But my righteous thoughts reminded me that, once I’d made a decision and given my word, I had to follow through, regardless of the weather.
I thought of my responsibility and mission, and then offered incense to Master and asked for strength during my trip. Then I resolutely went out in the wind and snow. When I arrived at my destination, it was daylight. To my surprise, the sun was shining brightly, which really warmed my heart. I am grateful for Master’s compassionate protection and arrangement.
I stayed there for three days, learning from different practitioners. One taught me how to burn DVDs, another discussed how to mass-produce materials, and another taught me some basic repair techniques. Everything went smoothly, and we all acknowledged Master’s compassionate arrangements. On the final day, I joined their Fa-study group and benefited a lot.
I began accessing the Minghui website around 2006. I often sent forth righteous thoughts to eliminate any interference with accessing the website. I can now usually connect to Minghui.org immediately. I taught several practitioners how to access the internet, and they rarely have trouble getting online. I learned from another practitioner how to use an internal email system, and we now mostly communicate through this channel. We agree on a time to meet, and practitioners generally arrive on time. I hardly ever use my mobile phone.
I want more practitioners to learn technical skills, so I try to teach them whenever I can. During this process, I have all kinds of xinxing tests. Some people learn quickly but won’t put in the effort, while others are willing to contribute but learn slowly.
When I learn something new, I usually familiarize myself with the entire process first, figure out the simple parts, and understand as much as I can before I ask other practitioners for help. This saves both my time and theirs. When I think through a problem myself, Master gives me hints, and I can suddenly understand it. I hope other practitioners learning technical skills will first try to figure out what they can do on their own, instead of constantly asking technical practitioners for help.
I taught a practitioner called Ann, who learned slowly, but did make an effort. I asked her to write down what she learned, refer to her notes when carrying out the steps, and then make corrections when she found issues. When I taught her this way, she sometimes looked confused and didn’t know what I was talking about. After I’d explained something to her several times and she still didn’t get it, I felt impatient. I reminded myself not to lose my patience.
Sometimes I couldn’t control my tone. I wondered why some practitioners could learn something immediately, while others couldn’t understand it after several explanations. I started to look down a bit on practitioners who learned slowly. Then I thought, “Wasn’t I the same when I started? Everyone needs time to learn. This is an opportunity for me to eliminate my impatience, intolerance, competitiveness, and other attachments. My impatience comes from selfishness, as I don’t want this to take up too much of my time. These bad thoughts are not from my true self, and I must eliminate them. These practitioners want to learn technical skills to help others.” I was then determined to help Ann successfully learn the skills. If she didn’t understand after my first explanation, I would try two or three times until she fully got it.
If Ann didn’t understand something, she sometimes became anxious and resentful, and accused me of not teaching her properly. I wasn’t happy and said, “I teach you voluntarily. The time I spend teaching you is my eating and sleeping time. You don’t have to thank me, but sometimes you can’t even learn the simplest thing, and then you criticize and blame me behind my back. Can’t you show a little gratitude? Take a look at yourself!”
Later, I realized that I should look inward myself. This wasn’t just a matter of teaching a practitioner technical skills; it was also an opportunity for me to improve my xinxing. I’d taught her the same thing many times, but she didn’t listen. She only focused on her thoughts and ignored what I was saying. If there were instructions, she wouldn’t read them and just waited to ask me. She wouldn’t even read the instructions on a cleaning product, saying she couldn’t understand them. Yet when I read them to her, she immediately understood.
I asked her, “Why don’t you try yourself first?”
She replied, “I just wait for you to teach me. I don’t know how to read instructions.”
Suddenly, I understood. I had been too self-centered and had set my expectations too high. I should let her learn gradually and teach her according to her ability to absorb information, rather than expecting her to immediately master whatever I wanted to teach her. If she had reached the point where she could no longer concentrate, I should wait until she had grasped things before moving forward. I must fulfill my vows and do well the things Master has entrusted to me.
After looking inward, I eliminated my fear of being wrongly blamed, my fear of trouble, resentment, desire for repayment, desire for praise, and other attachments. I didn’t want any of these filthy thoughts. I told Ann, “I was wrong. My attitude and tone were inappropriate. Please don’t take it to heart.” She also recognized her own mistakes and began paying more attention.
Ann can now access the internet, print materials, do basic typesetting, install computer systems, use the internal email system, and perform basic repairs. When she encounters a problem she can’t solve, she posts a question on the internet forum which practitioners host.
Unless there is an immediate priority, we begin each day with Fa study. I’m part of several Fa memorization groups, and whenever I have time, I recite and study the Fa and look within.
We used to rely on one local technical practitioner because he was the most skilled in our area. Last year, he encountered difficulties and could no longer repair machines, so we invited a technical practitioner from another area to teach us. This practitioner brought his own food, so that he didn’t have to trouble us. He patiently answered our questions and never got impatient. When some practitioners insisted on doing something according to their own ideas, he would set aside his own views and cooperate. When the practitioners realized their approach wouldn’t work, he would then explain his method and why it was necessary. I was deeply moved by his patience and cooperation. He did all these things selflessly, and his starting point for everything was putting others first.
I clearly saw my gaps. When I got busy, I wanted to complain. When there were too many things to do, I spoke harshly. These were all attachments and manifestations of selfishness. Through these experiences, I gained a deeper understanding that the various situations I encountered during cultivation were arranged by Master to help me eliminate my attachments, broaden my capacity, elevate my realm, and improve myself as quickly as possible.
I must make good use of every opportunity, remain clearheaded and rational at all times, and rectify every thought, word, and deed. I must not waste Master’s compassionate arrangements. I will take the Fa seriously, consider the needs of the whole body, and pass every tribulation well.
Learning to Admit “I Was Wrong”
I did well academically from a young age, which fostered my vanity, concern for reputation, desire to hear only pleasant things, and being unwilling to take criticism. Before I started practicing Falun Dafa, whenever something happened, I would insist that it wasn’t my fault, making one excuse after another about how this or that had happened, to avoid taking responsibility. After I began cultivating, I worked hard to eliminate this attachment.
When I ran into problems, my family, who were all practitioners, were very kind to me. They didn’t criticize me, and instead, openly admitted their own mistakes. I thought, “If this matter was actually my fault, how can I keep letting my family members take responsibility for it?” The next time something happened, I began to consider whether I had done something wrong and what lesson I should learn. I started saying, “Perhaps I was wrong?” As soon as I said this, no matter how serious my mistake had been, my family would immediately forgive me. They never complained and offered only encouragement.
Yet I couldn’t get rid of my deeply ingrained habits overnight, and my notions would sometimes take over. Once, just as I was about to shift the blame, a practitioner said, “Just say, ‘I was wrong. I’ll pay attention next time.’ There’s no need to explain.” I realized this made sense. I recited Master’s teaching,
“I’m not blaming you, but from now on you all must pay attention to this. You must get to the point where you are able to take criticism, regardless of who it’s from. If there is truth to it you correct it, and if not, you are mindful of it. If you can stay unruffled while being criticized or chided, you are improving.” (Teachings at the Conference in Los Angeles)
A practitioner was walking behind me one time, after we picked up some supplies. I said to her impatiently, “Can’t you walk faster?”
She replied calmly, “Try to change your tone.”
I was startled. How could I recite the Fa but fail to genuinely follow it and cultivate myself? I immediately smiled and said, “I’m sorry!” I often remembered how Master used that practitioner’s words to remind me to change my tone.
When I encountered situations that really bothered me, I would recite “Who’s Right, Who’s Wrong” from Hong Yin III.
I understood why I was wrong; it was because my heart was moved when faced with unfair blame or criticism. Instead of being moved, I should be grateful to practitioners for helping me improve. I was eventually able to cultivate my thinking so that my first thought was, “I was wrong,” regardless of whether I was at fault. Many problems were immediately resolved this way.
I also eliminated my attachment to relying on others. For the past 10 years, I have lived alone, so I had to find solutions to everything myself. I often asked Master for help and gradually learned how to handle many things in daily life, such as replacing a faucet and installing screen doors and windows. I was able to eliminate my attachment to wanting to rely on others.
As a Dafa disciple during the Fa-rectification period, I hope to become even more diligent in the future. I understand that only by making myself purer can I save more sentient beings and fulfill the vows I made before coming into this world.
These are my understandings at my current level. If anything is not in accordance with the Fa, I kindly ask fellow practitioners to compassionately point it out.
Thank you, Master!Thank you, fellow practitioners!
