Feb. 23, 2026 |   By Minghui correspondents in the UK

(Minghui.org) After the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Home Office issued statements condemning the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) intimidation of Shen Yun Performing Arts and the venues in which the companies perform, several Members of Parliament (MP) voiced their concern. They wrote that the UK government pays attention to such issues of transnational repression, and this intimidation of Shen Yun is a threat to the UK’s national security and sovereignty.

Preet Kaur Gill, MP for Birmingham EdgbastonLetter from Preet Kaur Gill MP

Preet Kaur Gill, MP for Birmingham Edgbaston, wrote, “On 6 March 2025, in response to a Written Question on Shen Yen performers, the Minister of State for the Home Office stated: ‘The Government is committed to promoting and protecting the right to freedom of religion or belief, including protecting the rights of Falun Gong Practitioners and their performance group, Shen Yun.’

“The Minister added: ‘We have a broad suite of powers to counter foreign interference, including those actions which amount to transnational repression. We will continue to use all the tools at our disposal to keep people safe.’

“I understand that Thames Valley Police was informed of a bomb threat directed at the Shen Yun performing arts group on 10 January 2026. The incident was reviewed by Counter Terrorism Policing, who assessed the information and confirmed there was no credible threat to the performance scheduled on the same day. Enquiries are still ongoing in this investigation.

“I know that the Government takes such matter extremely seriously. I expect that the investigation will produce full findings.”

Feryal Clark, MP for Enfield North

Feryal Clark, MP for Enfield North, wrote, “I want to be absolutely clear that the safety and security of individuals and organisations in the United Kingdom is of the utmost importance. Any attempts by a foreign state to coerce, intimidate, harass or threaten people on UK soil are taken extremely seriously and are considered a threat to our national security and sovereignty. Such behaviour will not be tolerated.

“The Government has made clear its commitment to promoting and protecting freedom of religion or belief, including the rights of Falun Gong practitioners and Shen Yun as a performance group. In response to questions raised in Parliament earlier this year, Ministers confirmed that the Government has a broad range of powers to counter foreign interference, including actions that amount to transnational repression, and will continue to use all tools at its disposal to keep people safe.

“The UK has consistently raised human rights concerns with the Chinese authorities, including restrictions on freedom of religion or belief, and will continue to do so through diplomatic and bilateral engagement.”

Mark Pritchard, MP

Mark Pritchard, MP wrote, “The UK government must not tolerate attempts by China to intimidate performers, venues, or audiences on British soil.

“I support the right of Shen Yun performers to tour in the UK, and the right of audiences to enjoy those performances without being intimidated or harassed.”
