(Minghui.org) A 57-year-old woman in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, was recently sentenced to five years for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Tian Yuhua was arrested at home on October 25, 2025, by 15 officers from the Nangang Police Station. They raided her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books, portrait of Falun Gong’s founder, printer, and disc burner. She was put in criminal detention at the Harbin City Detention Center.
Ms. Tian was later indicted by prosecutor Hu Di of the Daoli District Procuratorate. She appeared in the Daoli District Court on February 10, 2026, and was sentenced to five years and fined 50,000 yuan on February 13 by judge Wen Changfu.
Ms. Tian began to practice Falun Gong in 1996. Soon after, her health improved and she became a more considerate person. Since the onset of the persecution, she has been repeatedly targeted for practicing her faith.
The police broke into Ms. Tian’s home in May 2000 and attempted to arrest her. She resisted and they raided her place, confiscating one Falun Gong book.
Ms. Tian went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong on November 5, 2000, and she was arrested at Tiananmen Square. She was escorted back to Harbin and held at the Shuangcheng City Detention Center for seven days. The police extorted 4,000 yuan from her and did not issue a receipt.
On February 5, 2002, Ms. Tian was arrested at home by Xi Yuku, Chen Fubin, Liu Jie, and Fan Zimin of the Dancheng Town Police Station, and the village head and security director. She was held at the Dancheng Town Brainwashing Center for 36 days. She was beaten by the guards, which caused her face to swell and her eyes bled.
Ms. Tian was arrested again on May 11, 2024, by a group of plainclothes officers who broke into her home. The police said that the surveillance camera at a supermarket recorded her talking to people about Falun Gong. They took her to the police station for interrogation and extorted 5,000 yuan from her, before they released her on bail.
