(Minghui.org) When Ms. Gu Li’s family was finally allowed to visit her recently at the Liaoning Province Second Prison, they saw an emaciated woman with a sallow complexion. She could not lift one of her hands but was still forced to do hard labor for over ten hours a day.
Ms. Gu, of Dalian City, Liaoning Province, is serving a 3.5-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999. Her family are calling for attention to her ordeal.
Prior to her latest persecution, Ms. Gu was arrested on December 6, 2016, and later sentenced to four years. She endured brutal torture and sexual assault at the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison.
Ms. Gu, a former head nurse at Jinzhou Second People’s Hospital, was arrested on April 28, 2023, by officers from the Guangming Police Station for talking to people about Falun Gong. She failed the required physical examination, but the Yaojia Detention Center still admitted her on April 30, 2023. Given her persistent medical conditions, the guards released her days later on May 9, 2023, and put her on house arrest for six months.
The police later submitted Ms. Gu’s case to the Pulandian District Procuratorate. Prosecutor Zhao Xiaona indicted her in February 2024 and judge Wang Dongdong of the Pulandian District Court was assigned to her case.
Judge Wang held two hearings for Ms. Gu’s case, first in February 2024 and then on March 11, 2024. The police harassed her in April 2024, while she was waiting for a verdict.
The police took Ms. Gu back into custody at the Yaojia Detention Center on February 17, 2025. She was later sentenced to three and a half years and fined 10,000 yuan. It is unclear when she was transferred to the Liaoning Province Second Prison.
