67-Year-Old Jilin Woman Missing for at Least a Month, Likely Detained Again for Her Faith in Falun Gong

March 4, 2026 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Jilin Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Liu Xingrong’s friend has been unable to get in touch with her since January 23, 2026. She recently went to Ms. Liu’s rental place, but Ms. Liu was nowhere to be found. The friend found moldy food on the dining table and deduced that she has been missing for at least a month.

The friend told Ms. Liu’s family, who now suspect that she’s been arrested again for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.

Ms. Liu, 67, of Jilin City, Jilin Province, was previously arrested at home on the night of November 19, 2021, after a security guard reported her for distributing Falun Gong materials in his apartment complex. The Xinghua Police Station identified her using facial recognition technology and raided her home.

Ms. Liu was held in the police station overnight and taken to a local detention center the next day. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she was denied admission. The police released her on bail and ordered her to report to them every Monday.

To avoid being arrested again, Ms. Liu went into hiding. She has now been missing since at least January 23, 2026.

Earlier Persecution

Ms. Liu was previously sentenced to three years in prison following an arrest on June 3, 2015. She served time at the Jilin Province Women’s Prison and was released on June 2, 2018. See the related reports for details.

After she returned home, Ms. Liu faced constant harassment and surveillance. The police called her son in July 2019 and demanded to know her information. They called her on September 23, 2019, and ordered her to sign a statement to renounce Falun Gong. She refused to comply, and they showed up at her door two days later.

The local community office called Ms. Liu’s son on July 20, 2020, and told him to get his mother to report to them. She did not go, so they kept calling him. He ended up turning off his phone. They then called his wife.

To avoid implicating her son and daughter-in-law, Ms. Liu went to the community office on July 30, 2020. They took pictures of her without her consent and ordered her to “stay in touch with them.” On every major holiday or Falun Gong anniversary, they would call to see if she was home. Whenever they couldn’t reach her, they called her son or grandson to ask about her.

After her release on bail on November 20, 2021, she went into hiding. Her current whereabouts are now unknown.
