(Minghui.org) Six residents of Hebei Province were recently admitted to various prisons in Shandong Province to serve time for their faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Five of the practitioners, including Ms. Zhang Wenping, Ms. Cheng Guijun, Ms. Song Guifen, Mr. Men Bingcheng and Mr. Yu Yongli, reside in Dongguang County. Ms. Li Zhenying lives in Fucheng County (about 50 miles away from Gongguang County). The six of them were arrested on June 19, 2024 by police in neighboring Ningjin County, Shandong Province.
The Ningjin County Court held three hearings, on April 18, August 12 and 13, 2025, before sentencing them months later. Ms. Li was given four years. Ms. Cheng and Mr. Yu both received three years. Ms. Zhang was sentenced to two years. Mr. Men was given one and a half years. Ms. Song was sentenced to one year. They were also fined between 3,000 and 10,000 yuan. Five of them (names unknown) appealed the verdicts but it is unclear if a ruling had been issued.
Minghui.org recently learned of the six practitioners’ prison transfer. Ms. Cheng, Ms. Li, and Ms. Zhang were admitted to the Shandong Province Women’s Prison on February 5, 2026. Mr. Yu was admitted to the Shandong Province Prison five days later. Since Ms. Song and Mr. Men have already served their terms between their arrests and convictions, it remains to be seen if they have been released.
Details of Arrest and Trial
The six practitioners were arrested on June 19, 2024, after police in neighboring Ningjin County, Shandong Province discovered that they went to the local community fair in their jurisdiction, to talk to people about Falun Gong. The police monitored them for six months before arresting them.
The practitioners were held at the Dezhou City Detention Center in Shandong Province. Dezhou oversees Ningjin. Prosecutor Zheng Fangrong of the Ningjin County Procuratorate approved their arrests on July 29, 2024, and indicted them in early October 2024.
The Ningjin County Court held three hearings, on April 18, August 12 and 13, 2025. During the first hearing, all five family defenders were blocked by the bailiffs from entering. The lawyer representing Ms. Zhang was also stopped at the gate, as he was waiting for one of the family members.
With no other way to stop the hearing, the practitioners’ families decided to dismiss the lawyers (except for the lawyer who represented Ms. Zhang, as he wasn’t allowed to enter the courtroom).
During the second and third hearings in August, five of the practitioners testified in their own defense, and five of their lawyers also entered not guilty pleas for them.
Minghui.org learned about the practitioners’ verdicts on November 14, 2025. Prior to her latest prison sentence, Ms. Cheng was previously twice given forced labor and detained at least two other times at local detention centers. She was also extorted 20,000 yuan at an unknown time.
