(Minghui.org) A road near my home runs from south to north all the way to the suburbs and it’s lined with stores, residential buildings, and a school. One morning, I heard loud voices on the street and went to see what was happening. I saw Ms. Yuan, the street cleaner, shouting and cursing in front of Shanzi’s store, saying that he caused her to lose her job.

Ms. Yuan’s supervisor criticized her for selling vegetables while wearing her street cleaning uniform. Ms. Yuan explained that it was an accident; she just forgot to take it off. Then Shanzi arrived and complained that Ms. Yuan hadn’t cleaned the street well. The supervisor became even angrier and fired Ms. Yuan.

Furious over losing her job Ms. Yuan began cursing and yelling in front of Shanzi’s store, blaming him for meddling in her affairs and causing her problems. The bystanders sympathized with her and asked her to calm down. Ms. Yuan said she was hesitant to return to her village because she was afraid people would think she was useless because she couldn’t even keep a street-sweeping job.

I said, “You work hard and sweep the streets before dawn every day. Everyone sees it and respects you. Many kids go to and from school, and there are many vendors on the street. They throw garbage wherever they please, making it difficult to keep the street clean. Many previous sweepers quit because it’s so difficult. Why don’t you just leave since you’ve been fired?”

She said helplessly, “1,900 yuan a month is not a lot, but it’s more money than I would make growing and selling vegetables. We reduced the number of our vegetable gardens so I could do this job. The rest of the land was not planted, so others took it to grow vegetables. Now we can’t get our land back.”

I said, “You are over 60. Your children are married and no longer need your help. You just need to take care of your health and avoid burdening your children. If you become ill because you’re constantly angry, your children will have to support you.”

An older woman said, “What she said is correct. Shanzi is young and doesn’t care what he says. Actually, he knows he was wrong. He remained silent when you cursed him. Why don’t you forgive him?”

I collected two large bags of used items from home and gave them to her. I said, “Why don’t you sell used items since you can’t sweep the streets? This is easier, and you don’t need to get up early or worry about other people’s opinions.”

The atmosphere finally quieted down on the street, and everyone sighed in relief.

But Ms. Yuan returned two days later. She sat on the railing on the side of the road, stared at Shanzi’s store, and kept cursing. People said she was too attached to money. I realized it was hard for her to not to be angry or curse because her income was drastically reduced.

Nothing happens by chance. Since she was here I knew I needed to share the facts about Falun Dafa with her. I believe that once people truly understand Dafa, they’ll know what to do.

She said loudly when she saw me walking toward her, “Thank you for giving me so many used items.” I replied, “You’re welcome. I practice Falun Dafa. Our Master asks us to follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in everything we do. I know you’re a kind person and I want to help you.” I said, “It’s very hot. Let me walk you home. We can talk as we go.” She thanked me.

Her home was about 600 meters away. As we walked, I told her that Dafa is practiced around the world, and I explained how I benefited from practicing. I also told her stories of miracles people experienced after they recited, “Falun Dafa is good. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.”

Ms. Yuan said, “I got up early, went home late, and worked hard sweeping the streets. Yet people criticized me. But Shanzi sells poor quality food to children every day, but no one said anything about him.”

I explained the principle of, “No loss, no gain” that Master taught. I shared examples of how I took losses in my work. I said, “I practice Falun Dafa, so I do as Master asks and abide by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. I often work overtime without requesting additional pay. People laugh at me for not making a penny extra.

“But I’m healthy and I haven’t needed any medicine for more than 20 years. My child is as kind as I am. He works hard and was accepted into a good college. Don't you think it is a good thing that I make sacrifices for my work? As for others who sometimes treat us badly, perhaps we did bad things in a previous lifetime and now we owe them. Have you heard of samsara [the sixfold path of reincarnation]? When we owe someone, they may come to collect in this life. If we endure it, the matter will be settled.”

I continued, “Of course it’s wrong for Shanzi and others to sell substandard food to children. People are influenced by atheism and don’t understand that what goes around comes around. There are so many natural and man-made disasters now, which some believe are happening because Heaven is punishing people. People lack morality. They’re focused on making money and don’t care if they hurt others. People’s lives will be in danger if this continues. Master wants us to tell people the facts and save them.”

I explained the importance of quitting the Chinese Communist Party and its affiliates. She gladly quit the Young Pioneers.

When I later met Ms. Yuan she smiled and said, “Falun Dafa is good. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” I asked how things were going. She said she did a good deed. She found a purse on her way home after selling vegetables. It contained a cell phone, a few hundred yuan, and a pack of cigarettes, with a total value of about 1,000 yuan. She said, “I followed your advice and I did not keep it.”

She asked her son to use the cell phone and find the owner. The owner came to pick up the items and wanted to give her a few hundred yuan. She refused. She said if she wanted his money, she wouldn’t have returned his things.

I gave Ms. Yuan a thumbs up and said, “That’s great. Not only did you do a good thing and earn de, but you also made a friend. No doubt he’ll help you if you need anything in the future.”

I said, “It would have been bad if you hadn’t returned the items that didn’t belong to you. Cultivators feel it would have cost you de. A person’s fate and wealth all depend on the amount of de one has. With a lot of de, one will be lucky all the time, businesses will run smoothly, children will excel in school, and the family will be harmonious. Those who are short of de will be poor all their lives. Even begging will be difficult when you don’t have any de to exchange.” She understood immediately and said, “I know de is important. I will never do anything in the future that costs me de.”
