The festival featured more than 100 booths that showcased international food, handicrafts, and fair-trade products. Beyond the culinary offerings, the event provides a platform for various ethnic groups to share their traditions through a series of cultural and artistic displays. By celebrating Auckland’s multi-ethnic community, the festival highlights the inclusivity of New Zealand and the successful integration of its many cultures.
Dafa practitioners introduced different aspects of traditional Chinese culture, including paper cutting, calligraphy, and tea tasting. Many festival visitors stopped at their booth, and a number of people said they admired practitioners for their peace, patience, and kindness.
Learning About Falun Gong, Supporting Practitioners
“I support you because you are persecuted,” said cultural advisor Helene, who has a medical background. She said she knew about the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) brual persecution and state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting of prisoners of conscience.
“I think this is wrong. Humans should not be treated like this. Everyone should be treated as a human. These are basic human rights,” Helene said.
She encouraged practitioners to continue raising awareness: “It is important to let more people know what is happening in China.”
Mark Lewington, a retired elementary school principal, said after watching the practitioners performing Chinese musical instruments, “Those young female performers are elegant and highly skilled, truly awesome.”
When he heard that Falun Dafa’s guiding principles are Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, Mr. Lewington said, “These values are what the world needs now. If we look at the current global situation, these are precisely the qualities that are missing.”
Miriam Ness shared her experience after trying the Falun Gong exercises: “I feel wonderful and incredibly light. I can feel a surge of warmth emerging from deep within. It felt as if something suddenly opened up; I began to sweat as if every single pore had sprung open. I feel incredibly comfortable.”
Refering to Falun Dafa’s principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, Ms. Ness said, “They are beneficial to me and important for my children. If I can convey these values to them, that would be incredibly powerful.” She said she had eight children and her life was busy and she often felt pressured.
Ms. Ness was also impressed with the waist drums and dragon dance, calling them “brimming with vitality, passion, and joy, while simultaneously showcasing the continuity of traditional culture, passing down from long ago to the present day.”
Rebecca was happy to learn the exercises.
Rebecca was among the many people who tried the exercises. “This is the first time I’ve done the [Falun Gong] exercises. I never tried it before, although I’ve seen people practicing the exercises outdoors.
“It is truly relaxing. so quiet, with no one speaking. You are simply there, experiencing that tranquility,” Rebecca said. She said this state resembles a dialogue with one’s inner self, or even a connection with a higher level of existence.
Meenu learns how to do paper cutting.
Meenu learned paper cutting for the character “Compassion” and said, “Compassion is a fundamental quality that everyone should possess. People ought to be kind to one another and care for one another.”
She said she admired practitioners and traditional Chinese culture, and shared that she also meditates. “As long as it fosters inner tranquility and encourages goodness, it is beneficial.”
